If you use an adblocker, which is free, you aren't going to buy the stuff advertised as you don't see the advertisement. So doesn't an adblocker actually support your idea?
Also with ad blocker - people watch more of the content - instead of making Youtube, or the content creators, think of changing the policy about the ads, because nobody would watch those videos. Creating and sharing content is one thing. Doing it mainly for the money, or some fame, is another thing.
I mean, if I enjoy the content. I can, at the very least, mute the ad and let it run while I check my mails or whatever until I can either skip it or the video resumes. As long as the ad is physically there, the "view" is in and rest is irrelevant.
I love teardown videos and watching computers / electronics being torn down and taken apart, that kind of thing.
I like gameplay videos and random science stuff.
I also like movie trailers.
I don't believe there is. Even if there was, content creators want to be paid and without advertisements paid by businesses (big and small) then why go to the trouble of making good content for free.
Even if they was, over time it would just become another youtube that needs to be advert friendly to lure in the money.
Because they like it!
I like it too
Nobody does it better... yet...
It is what you make of it.
Just wish it was designed better. I mean damn, how many yachts has that thing paid for so far?
So instead of using ads - and selling data, they could also add some donation button. And if the amount You get is connected to the number of people who watch it anyway - it doesn´t lead to overall worse or better content. And that it is all about the money in the end, is more about the greed of companies, and the way companies advertise their products, which won´t lead to better products either.
There´s also another solution to promote creativity in general, and to give the people another option than to make money out of everything, but i don´t want to derail the thread. :o)
If you don't like YouTube and you're concerned about Google's privacy invasion, you may check out Invidious[github.com]. It lets you browse the service without megabytes of proprietary javascript or ads. I recommend using an actual media player to actually watch videos, but it isn't necessary if you don't find that practical.
It isn't for everyone, and I simply wanted to point out a FOSS project if anyone's interested to detox their data footprint and whatnot.
Piped[github.com] is a similar project, however it's over-reliant on javascript and works very differently. Still, it's another option for this sort of thing.
Just tried this one and odysee that someone mentioned below looking for Mazda CX30 reviews. Vidlii returned No results at all and odysee returned some cx30 related videos but none were review videos and were promotionals or announcement videos of the vehicle.
Hence this is why I use YouTube. I haven't found a comparable substitute
