Anyone else losing interest in video games?
I'm feeling a bit frustrated and stuck lately, because I've been having a hard time finding enjoyment in video games like I used to. It's possible that I'm just burnt out or that my interests are changing as I get older, but I'm finding myself losing interest in games after only playing for a short while.

I used to love sinking hours into a game, immersing myself in the story and gameplay. But now, it feels like a chore to even start playing. I try to push through it and play for a bit longer, but eventually I end up getting bored and switching back to doing something else, like work, coding or watching YouTube videos.

I mean look at my hours played this week. Half of that time was me tabbed out doing something else.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping to find a way to enjoy games again, because they used to be such a big part of my life and I miss that.

Don’t force it. Play when you feel like it. Me personally I enjoy video games in “short burst”. I have multiple hobbies other than video games and I switch off depending on how I feel.

If it feels like a chore then take a break. Once you have the urge to play then play.

Try a different genre than you are used to.

I used to just want to play shooters... then got into looter shooters with progression .. tastes change over time as you change.

Thing is there really are not that many great games to choose from. And finding one you want to stick with for a while has always been a challenge.

You will know when you find the right one... time will fly while playing it, you will look forward to getting up to play again.

But it may take a while to find a worthy game to you.

I am kind of in that spot now... I have games I enjoy and kill some time with but I just don't feel driven to play them anymore. Just waiting for the next one to make me go wow.

Cyberpunk 2077
The only game in recent years where I don't have music/youtube playing in the background.

Walk around Night City at night and in the rain, it's amazing.

Not really. Life gets in the way sometimes, but video games have been there for the most part when I can try and relax for a bit. Unless it's an MMO or something else that has a chance of shutting down and being unplayable, there're other things to do out there without worrying about not playing a game you're interested in.

I think it is fairly common. Just take a break, and do something different, odds are you just need a temporary change. Just don't do something rash like selling everything, I know several people who did, and later had to rebuy a lot of stuff.

That means you might got a burnout. Just stop playing for now and come back when, no, IF you feel like it. For me I eventually gets interested again but some friends that I know never come back after burnout. It just differs for every person.

Yeah myself. Problem is games repeat itself and most is low effort garbage. Elden ring was a fresh breath of air

Yeah, of course. Every time I see a question like this posted, it's the same "burnout" comments, and while I agree, it just feels like there's hardly anything interesting coming out lately regardless of that.

Nah but i rarely finish games nowadays. I was really hooked by D:OS2 (and lately pathfinder) but i dont have the motivation to finish its story. Sometimes i wish more games offer a mode (like pathfinder kingmaker dlc) where i can just kill stuffs and not having to worry abt quests etc

I dunno? go play with your ♥♥♥♥ instead? could not be assed with such luxurious problems.

As is with everything in life, you'll have ups and downs with things. Sometimes you are completely addicted to games, sometimes you're not that in the mood. It's actually quite normal. Don't force yourself to "push through", as that's more likely to create resentment than enjoyment.

Do other things, enjoy those and when you feel like it, play a game. I've been gaming a tad more lately, but in the period before I was spending more time readin than gaming.

What else do you expect? OP potentially having dementia?

That's definitely a burnout.
Time to take a break from videogames until you start feeling like touching them once again.
If that doesn't help, try to prolong the break.
If even that doesn't help, it's time to try something new - Either some different genre of a videogame, or to do something else.
