Are video games becoming less popular
I feel like video game popularity is hitting a low recently, probably not indefinitely, most likely not infact, but definitely recently it seems like games are slowing down, I guess because there haven't really been any good game releases recently, that could be the reason, I'm just asking if you guys have noticed the same thing

Probably because people over hyped NMS, and when they were let down they lost some hope in gaming
Not really, just the NEW games are a bit less popular than thriving old ones

Not really, it's just newer IPs are just tainted with the image of always ending up in disappointment, thus leading to older franchises to retain their playerbases or stay relevant even longer.

That, or people only care about the REALLY REALLY popular games, like CSGO and LoL, which are basically e-Sports now.

Some players are abandoning formulaic AAA titles for more unique indie games.

It is the contradiction to my point, yes.

Blizzard are already well known and they advertised the game to the point everyone knows about it.

I think people are referring on if new IPs by smaller lesser known teams ever get attention without overhyping or just be another "No Man's Sky."

AAA games do seem to be waning in popularity. Devs have gotten complacent, the market has gotten stale. To many gamers it's always the same old modern FPS formula, with very little new substance being added each year. Meanwhile most studios are afraid to risk something new, and so they keep milking the same IPs and getting middling reviews each year.

I'm really just waiting for the next big game that I can actually put substantial hours into, it's been a little while since I've gotten one of those, counter strike global offensive was probably the last one, or maybe black ops 2, probably a mixture of the 2, cod is a dying and mostly already dead series, and csgo is quickly dropping in players, mostly due to probably the absence of skin betting, and people are losing interest in skins, which means people are losing interest in the game, and that directly correlates to the average daily player graphs, which are declining fast since skins became borderline unbetable, I really am waiting for a new game to really capture me for hundreds of hours like cs:s and cs:go did, nothing has really done that yet other then overwatch which is quite fun if you're playing with friends but in my opinion slightly dull to play alone

First off most new games blow these days

Second people love to complain and the internet gives them a voice to do so in a loud way.

Third The video game industry is one of the most profitable industries in the world for a reason

I don't wish to start an argument but I don't really understand how 2 and 3 dispute my preliminary statement

Very true. A growing number of gamers aren't buying into the overhype pre-order nonsense anymore. The whole triple A industry is in peril, and that's a good thing.

Games will hopefully become less corporate, but it could mean we sacrifice graphics and smooth physics for better story and gameplay, maybe it will balance out at one point

I'd argue that video games haven't been more popular. It's just the newer ones that are less popular, old games still have large playerbases.
