how is a keyboard and mouse more superior to a game controller...
since i was a kid with the original atari to the 90's with the playstation and birth of pc gaming, to now with VR. But one thing I've never understood was how a mouse and keyboard is superior to the controller.. For over 20 years of gaming from almost every console and even the pc, their is no way that this is true. how can a dozen buttons and a mouse out beat a controller when everything you need is a thumb or finger click away. and not having to be pushing all these buttons laid out on a keyboard. there is a reason why most gaming competition uses a controller and not a mouse and keyboard. and also for those who swear its superior for FPS how is that possible any person who has been playing games since the 70's and 80's would destroy a gamer in a FPS with a game controller and thats because a controller is superior if it wasnt it wouldnt been around for 40 years.. with a controller you have faster reflex time faster response faster equipment exchange becasue it all in the palm of your hands not spread across a board with multiple buttons to be pushed for one move. So their is no way a keyboard and mouse is superior to a game controller... Oh and if a keyboard is so superior why dont all the different steam machines come with a keyboard and mouse instead of a game controller, oh thats right cause its superior to the keyboard and mouse...

I agree it's up to preference and sometimes it depends on the game. If I'm playing Guacamelee, I'm going to use a controller. If I'm playing RE5, I'll use the keyboard. Some games are better one way or the other.

The Steam controller looked like a mess to me.

I'll just stick with using my Xbox 360 controllers to my computer.

There honestly are no facts anywhere that prove keyboard and mouse are better than controllers, there have been no public tests done that can prove one is better over the other.

It's just fanboy and 'PC Master Race' grumble.
DeadlyIssues Jun 5, 2016 @ 8:54am
yes but its not. because only keyboard and mouse players sit their and brag how more superior it is and can beat anyone with a controller. only pc gamers do this console gamers dont care about that or what a pc gamer plays with. but a pc gamer is quick to jump on a xbox or ps4 and dog everyone who use a controller and says if we were on the pc i kick your ass. no you wouldnt if you coudnt beat me on a console your not beating me in the same game on a pc cause now all of a sudden you got your keyboard and mouse.. thats not how gaming works. because when it comes down to it my controller is easier and faster to use..

Well isn't this a laugh.

Fun fact, mouse and keyboard are superior in aiming and control compared to a gamepad. Just vastly superior. There is a reason why gamepad gets aimbot like auto aiming in various games.

Even more fun fact, there was this game on Xbox 360 that was going to allow crossplatform with PC players but it didn't take long to notice that even the most skilled gamepad users where wrecked by PC players.

So they did things like, nerf the accuracy for weapons for mouse and keyboard users, nerfed the aiming capabilities as in hindering you to aim quickly. Still didn't do much to curb the dominance of Keyboard and mouse users.
I don't think the game went through with it because it was such an embarrassment.

Unreal Tournament 3 on console had to be slowed down by 25% for it to work well with gamepads.

As for most competition being done with a gamepad. Like which ones? Fighting games? Racing games? Sure those might be more fun with gamepad but the bigger giants when it comes to Esport uses keyboard and mouse. Those being Counter strike and Quake.

But I know this topic is a bait topic. Poorly one at that too.

A mouse is naturaly better for a FPS game due to it's precision and accuracy. The keyboard is the side tool used as a mouse tends to lack the other functions needed to control the character.

A controller is less accurate in a FPS game, provided there is not aim assist in play.

In other types of games, where percision and accuracy are less of an issue (and/or there is not aim assist), it is as intrepid owen said and is purely based on preference. Other then that, it also depends on the type of game being played. Some are better with a M&K, others with a controller.

There is a middle ground to be had here. It has never been one or the other.

There is plenty of evidence and facts supporting it, but it just isn't at as narrow of a range as some make it out to be.

This video, for example. The player admits it would be better (especialy at long range) if there was an aim asists. He does s decent job using an x-box controller, but also says he has done better using a mouse and keyboard.

As for his question about PC not having aim assist, it would be due to it being similar to an aim-bot and make it harder to detect such cheats.

Don't forget RTS games, such as Starcraft 2. M&K is also used more in that area too.

their have been a few test done by IGN and other gaming companies. its been proven that you have faster reflexes with a controller but pc gamers will say its a lie and console gamers said that. like i said only pc gamers get angry when you put down their insuperiour keyboard and mouse. but the minute you beat a pc gamer with your controller your a cheater and the report you cause how dare you beat them.. and im sorry but for you young ones out their this debate has been going on for well over 20 years back when you was in a diaper.

Well there's your answer.

You can't spell "Ignorant" without IGN.
DeadlyIssues Jun 5, 2016 @ 9:09am
this not bait i want to know how its superior if it was pc wouldnt never added controller support. and steam machines wouldnt come with a controller.

IGN doesn't hold much value and I doubt they touch PC games all that often. So obviously they are going to favor console gamepads.

You like to brag about gamepad so much and how people beat them with it without showing any proof.

But your thumb can not give better accuracy than the entire hand on a mouse. It just isn't possible.

As for this debate, it might been going on for a long time but we PC users still hold the more accurate tools. You have not given any sort of proof that Mouse and keyboard are worse than gamepads.

No, it hasn't. :steamhappy: I'm 36 years old, btw.

Controller were around longe before a mouse. A mouse was brought in due to it's precision and accuracy.

It only became a debate when consoles stared being an on-line system with PC/Console ports coming about.

Consoles have even tried to bring something like a mouse and keyboard to their own systems.

This has only been going on for about 10 years or so. Not even close to 20.

I'd be interested in those IGN articles, got a link?

These types of arguments are best settled in a 1on1, in Unreal Tournament.

Good luck, controller user! You're going to need it.

Like the people above said, it's about preference.

HOWEVER, it terms of FPSs and games that require precision, a mouse and keyboard do the job better than a controller without assists.

This is a ridiculous argument. "PC" isn't a person, or an organization, or a company.

You have more precision and more control how far and how fast you move cursor.

Keyboard have much more keys than gamepad, you can bind each weapon to different keys, instead of using weapon switch, etc. Games like Unreal Tournament, Dota 2 and Starcraft 2 will never work on consoles with gamepad, because you need lot of keys and good mouse precision.

Even some games that were released first on consoles, played better with KB+M. For example, Bastion. In Bastion you have to rely on auto aim with gamepad, but its hard to choose targets for yourself, or lead targets (which makes rocket launcher and bow unuseable)
