I'll just stick with using my Xbox 360 controllers to my computer.
There honestly are no facts anywhere that prove keyboard and mouse are better than controllers, there have been no public tests done that can prove one is better over the other.
It's just fanboy and 'PC Master Race' grumble.
Fun fact, mouse and keyboard are superior in aiming and control compared to a gamepad. Just vastly superior. There is a reason why gamepad gets aimbot like auto aiming in various games.
Even more fun fact, there was this game on Xbox 360 that was going to allow crossplatform with PC players but it didn't take long to notice that even the most skilled gamepad users where wrecked by PC players.
So they did things like, nerf the accuracy for weapons for mouse and keyboard users, nerfed the aiming capabilities as in hindering you to aim quickly. Still didn't do much to curb the dominance of Keyboard and mouse users.
I don't think the game went through with it because it was such an embarrassment.
Unreal Tournament 3 on console had to be slowed down by 25% for it to work well with gamepads.
As for most competition being done with a gamepad. Like which ones? Fighting games? Racing games? Sure those might be more fun with gamepad but the bigger giants when it comes to Esport uses keyboard and mouse. Those being Counter strike and Quake.
But I know this topic is a bait topic. Poorly one at that too.
A controller is less accurate in a FPS game, provided there is not aim assist in play.
In other types of games, where percision and accuracy are less of an issue (and/or there is not aim assist), it is as intrepid owen said and is purely based on preference. Other then that, it also depends on the type of game being played. Some are better with a M&K, others with a controller.
There is a middle ground to be had here. It has never been one or the other.
There is plenty of evidence and facts supporting it, but it just isn't at as narrow of a range as some make it out to be.
This video, for example. The player admits it would be better (especialy at long range) if there was an aim asists. He does s decent job using an x-box controller, but also says he has done better using a mouse and keyboard.

As for his question about PC not having aim assist, it would be due to it being similar to an aim-bot and make it harder to detect such cheats.
Don't forget RTS games, such as Starcraft 2. M&K is also used more in that area too.
You can't spell "Ignorant" without IGN.
IGN doesn't hold much value and I doubt they touch PC games all that often. So obviously they are going to favor console gamepads.
You like to brag about gamepad so much and how people beat them with it without showing any proof.
But your thumb can not give better accuracy than the entire hand on a mouse. It just isn't possible.
As for this debate, it might been going on for a long time but we PC users still hold the more accurate tools. You have not given any sort of proof that Mouse and keyboard are worse than gamepads.
No, it hasn't.
Controller were around longe before a mouse. A mouse was brought in due to it's precision and accuracy.
It only became a debate when consoles stared being an on-line system with PC/Console ports coming about.
Consoles have even tried to bring something like a mouse and keyboard to their own systems.
This has only been going on for about 10 years or so. Not even close to 20.
I'd be interested in those IGN articles, got a link?
Good luck, controller user! You're going to need it.
HOWEVER, it terms of FPSs and games that require precision, a mouse and keyboard do the job better than a controller without assists.
Keyboard have much more keys than gamepad, you can bind each weapon to different keys, instead of using weapon switch, etc. Games like Unreal Tournament, Dota 2 and Starcraft 2 will never work on consoles with gamepad, because you need lot of keys and good mouse precision.
Even some games that were released first on consoles, played better with KB+M. For example, Bastion. In Bastion you have to rely on auto aim with gamepad, but its hard to choose targets for yourself, or lead targets (which makes rocket launcher and bow unuseable)
