IOBit ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up Source games, amongst other things?
So, a bit of backstory. I downloaded the IOBit Advanced Systemcare 9 program, got a lisence for it to help me clear out and optimize my computer. I optimized it more than once, and then used it to clear out some big files on my C:/ drive. No big deal, right? It removed a TON of video files, a few files I barely ever used, varuious music files from experimenting with FL Studio.

Okay, so it clearedo ut a bit of other files, like the sound files used for the RealGuitar VST. Okay, no worries, I have Kontakt 4... Basically, I clearedu p a ton of spaceo n my PC.

now here's where I realize I might have screwed up. After clearingo ut and optimizing my PC with ASC9, I'm invited to play Left 4 Dead 2. I start the game, only to notice that the game never starts. It just puts me on a black screen, so I have to use Task Manager to get out.

Okay? So I try Gmod. black screen for a few seconds, then crashes. I try the Half-Life games - they say something about a memory access violation and close. Source Filmmaker closes as soon as the launch screen even pops up, with no errors.

So, I'm turning to you guys, because I can't figure out what happened. I reinstalled the .NET frameworks, Reinstalled and repaired some Visual C++ Redistributables, but the games still don't load. I'd do a system Restore, but I am unsurei fi t'll bring back my missing files from the dead.

So, any computer professionals, can you please help me out? I'm not sure what I did to screw up my games, along with OpenIV for GTA V modding.

And before anyone states the obvious, yes, I did remove IOBit Malware Fighter (In fact, I removed ALL the IOBit applications after realizing my big ♥♥♥♥♥♥.) Now I'm pissed at myself, and I don't know HOW to fix what I just broke.

Please, god, help me, guys. I think I accidentally my Source games, and this IS bad.

You just need to delete and reinstall. A lot of the cleaner software tag and remove or alter registry keys. It can do anything from making a game fail to launch to making your PC a brick. If a verify game cache does not fix the issue, you can try deleting the game and reinstalling, or making a game back up on your HD, deleting the game and reinstalling the back up to get the registry fixed.

And stop using cleaning programs.

Yeah, same here. I think this could be the first time someone's screwed up so badly while cleaning out their hard drive, so, I guess when it's all said and done, I will invite all of Steam to laugh at me.

I have done this already with Left 4 Dead 2, and Gmod. This has not fixed my issues, so i'm wondering if it's a program the Source games are, or were, dependant on.

Can't help you their, old son. I would need to dig through you r PC in person. If you have a restore point where the games worked on your PC to roll back to, I would say that. IOBITS should ask you to create one every time it runs, so you should have one. Otherwise, create install backups of your games on an external and factory reset the bugger.

Yeah, here's the other sort of screw up. I uninstalled the IOBit software after I realized I had screwed up, and then, hours later, I find out there's a restore function on it to undo whati t had done. I do have system restore points, but I am very unsure if those will fix anything. I suppose it's worth a shot. Will do it tonight.

Well first, I'm going to try to verify intrgrity one last time on a random bit of software JUST in case. If all else fails, a system restore is in the books. Thank you so much, guys. :P

Good luck pally!

It didn't work. System restore failed to recover a file from back before I installed Spybot. so I think I'm still stuck with broken Source games. I'd reinstall my OS if I hadn't lost the disk to it, to see if maybe I just messed up something that the games needed from my system, since all my games are on a seperate drive from the C:\ drive.

actually, I THINK I figured it out. While troubleshooting a crash log with Payday 2 devs, after having the same issue with the game, we both noticed that the crash.txt file specified that my Nvidia card was running on 'version 0.0.0.0', which immediately told us that something happened with the graphics dfriver for my GTX 1070, despite it 'working', and it confused the games. I got the newest version installed. And while I DO have yet to test it, so far, things are looking up, since Payday 2 has started working since then.
