Sometimes for me it's just a matter of what I saw first. If one originally watches something dubbed (and it's not a terrible technical job of it), you're used to those voices/word readings, so to speak. Or vice versa. I still can't watch the subbed version of Das Boot, even tho that's not the worst dub I've ever encountered.
I don't have a huge general preference for subs or dubs. If something I've never seen before has dubbed, I may choose it because I want to watch while really tired, lying down and farther away from a screen - not exactly the best frame for reading. Or if I start out subtitles but the dialogue is long-winded and the subs. move/change so fast I feel like I can never look at the picture vs. the text, I may switch (most anime that I've seen doesn't have this problem tho...)
(corrective edit: I don't care how long I live, I'll still probably always mix up/mistype Das Boot as Das Boat)
I hate it when anime girls just being completely sharp and soft to their voice, and it hurts.
I generally dislike it when Eng. dub actors try to emulate this language-tonal difference in English. It's part of what makes some dubs silly, imo.
Except 4kids. Because that company is made of ♥♥♥♥.
I hear a lot of about how 4kids was terrible but they aren't terrible because
I NEED A MANSTER TO CLOOBUH DAT KURBEH
I can understand people not liking Japanese Goku but the rest are just fine in Japanese.
I've watch Cromartie High School as dubbed but it's because it wasn't serious and the main guy did a good job.
Also I prefer to watch a movie in it's original language than dubbed. That's if I get subtitles, if there are none I just won't bother.
Agreed. The Japanese ones have voices that match the character far better as well.
