Anyone ever been around an English Bulldog? They are one of the sweetest dogs out there, but people hear that name and think Pitbull, and freak out. I've had people refuse to come in the house because we have a Bulldog, who spends 23 hours a day sleeping and the other hour scratching himself. FFS he gets scared by leaves blowing in the wind.
My thoughts exactly. Originally domesticated animals were used for work, now they're just common practice. Make me get a license if I want one. There are genuine reasons to get a dog, luxury isn't one of them
The study you quoted sites the website it is on as a source. Which is basically like saying, "Trust me, this is true." Doesn't mean it's wrong, but it's sketchy.
Yeah. I've owned multiple pitbulls. Never bit anyone. I've known other families with pitbulls. Never bit anyone. Never bit me.
Pitbulls aren't like other dogs. They are naturally inclined to guard the pack. They are more muscular and aggressive. They are also smarter and more emotional. (Compared to most dog breeds.) So, training is absolutely critical. It's not like a labrador. You have to put in serious time and work.
As general advice? Yes.
As a legal restriction? No.

P.S.: Also, pitbull ownership climbed (against other breeds) during the period the study quotes. Which would naturally cause pitbull-related problems to increase. However, the site mentions none of this. Almost like they have an agenda, and want to present a skewed one-sided perspective. By leaving out facts.
It's the owners that need to be dealt with. Pits are one of the most rescued breeds because the "owners" abuse and mistreat them.

should we ban alcohol? how many deaths do we have a year from alcohol or alcohol related injuries/wrecks, etc. ban it all.
should we ban roller coasters? a few people have dies this year from them already. to many. ban them.
should we ban beaches? all these shark attacks. we cant kill animals becasue that makes vegans mad so we must ban beaches.
should we ban knives? look at all the knife attacks and murders that are commited every year. ban them. screw chefs, ban knives.
should we ban all fast food. a lot of it is unhealthy. it doesn't matter people buy it by CHOICE, its still the fast foods fault. ban them all.
one thing most all these have in common? most of the people were wearing shoes. you know if we banned shoes then people couldn't be running around commiting all these crimes etc and they couldnt run from the police either. so we should ban shoes.
i wish that people who want to ban things understood the slippery slope they are on. They are always FINE and OKAY to ban things they don't like or use. but never want anything they use or do to be banned.
when you start to just ban things, then anything can become banned.
ban pitbulls.. BUT.. dont ban my alcohol. Better not ban my weed, dont ban my car.. just ban the things i dont like or the things that are ewwwwy and scarewwwwy to meeeee. Take away other peoples freedom of choice, but just don't take mine away.
*5 seconds later the Pitbull mauls you and tosses you like a ragdoll*
Those dogs are strong.
