If this is the definition of sleep paralysis, well mine translates more in the way that I feel like I cannot move or that my neck is stuck; sleeping hard against the pillow.
...of the "Bill" variety?

I've had it a few times, usually with an 'intruder' (no consistency between mine though). Often terrifying in the moment, but overall once you know and understand it, it's actually quite a fun phenomenon in hindsight.
I've had 3 sleep paralysis total in life. The same unable to move/scream experience and seeing ghosts,
I remember the first happened after a long 30km jog and other 2 happened in a weekend, where I sleep too many non-habit hours into the morning. I think it's because of just a sudden change of sleep habit and after the 3rd time, I got used to the shock signals and is able to tell myself that it's SP. After the 3rd, I no no longer experience any.
I think of them as lucid out of body experiences. A weird in between dreaming and being aware of your environment/body.
Things I do when I realize this is:
1. Don't panic
2. Check breathing, if normal I just get back to sleep and the alarm clock would wake me up later anyway
3. Move my toes, particularly crossing the big toe with the toe next to it, this usually woks to wake me up.
I call mine Pinky, mainly because she has a pinkish tone and a big smile.
The figures are often thought to be your brain trying to admit you woke up because someone woke you. But there isn't someone, so it just creates a figure. And the screaming and seeming vibration are it trying to work through what woke you without context.
Doesn't mean it isn't scary as hell.
