why dont those Americans call it hand egg?
It's called hand egg. Not football. USA'ns are so weird.
It originated in the English countrside long before America was a thing. IIt was usually played between local villages where town swuares were the goals, and FEET were used as much as hands and so on.
Later it refined and rugby was also split off from it. The remainder was called football because surprise, surrise, you use feet. Verus rugby where you largely don't.
Funny how language works ain't it?
So no, it was called football long before American Football was a twinkle in someone's eye.
Maybe it's not that the foot refers to kicking, but rather that it refers to running.
Whatever, all sports suck anyway, don't people realise exercise is bad for you?
That being said, I have long lost interest in Association Football - the official name for football/soccer - as it is utterly boring and defensive these days. If they at least had some rules that made the game much more fluid and offensive.
And the actresses who play for fouls and the almost never used bench that doubles as overpaid cheerleaders, these are the icing in the cake...
Also, usually there is only a handful of teams that dominate each country league. At least in Brazil things are a little less predictable these days, my team has been relegated twice in the last decade, won the 2nd division twice, and has since then won the South American Copa America and the 1st division.
But yes, I rather watch American Football these days.
The question should be the other way around
the ♥♥♥♥'s a USAn?
But, what exactly is a rug bee
American Football is actually a variation of rugby and the name American Football is misleading. It should be called American Rugby.
But since the term Football was already used for American Rugby, it was simply called soccer.
Doesn't matter anyway in a democracy that upholds imperial systems of measurement.
In any case, this has nothing to do with logic or reason. ,-)
Why do American´s not even call their sport the correct name?
It is called Gridiron !!!!!!!! and for good reason.
Football is the name, not just Europeans, but most of the world call actual Football.
Just because 4.2% of the worlds population, think that Gridiron should be called Football and actual football called soccer, does not really matter much, now does it?
I mean.. its a tiny minority after all.. The only thing to do, is shake your head and walk away, the same applies for when talking about stuff like the Imperial system........
