Are I.Q. tests good for measuring general intelligence, or are they inherently flawed?
I personally think they are massively flawed, biased, and simplistic, with many often focusing too much on mathematics or scholastic memory retention and not enough on actual "intelligence" as a whole.

I think the only thing an I.Q. test measures is how well people can do on an I.Q. test.

I think they are biased and often miss the mark completely when it comes to general intelligence outside of isolated schooling or mathematical related situations.

What do you fine people of Off Topic think?

No, you can cheat this tests
IQ tests generally test for Math and Language skills. Some tests test for other things though. It is entirely possible to score low on a traditional (Math & Language) test and score extremely high on some other test. Also, IQ tests don't test for how much you know, they are testing your retention capabilities. In other words, they are looking for how much new information you can hold onto and how well you can put that information to use.

Yeah, most of this tests are bs imo
They’re diagnostic tests for use by clinicians for very specific purposes. Using them outside that context is asking to be mislead. They’re certainly not a test of “general intelligence”; that’s far too broad a concept to be reduced to a number.
nope. You can cheat it, you can get lucky with it, plus it's not as much as measuring intelligence as how educated you are (Basically did you go to school and is your school teaching you basic mathematics).
Any "test" or "quiz" or "evaluation" Isn't wrong

you're just testing it wrong
By that i mean they all are used to measure specific things and sections.

The real intelligence test are the autism and mental disabilities tests. If you fail those you're not on average as bright as the average joe or jane. If you pass you're normal on average at least.

higher learning and intelligence imo varies. What a carpenter may know a doctor may not and vice versa. One may be good at memorization but not critical thinking or lack the ability to make on the spot decisions but excel at long term planning to solve issues and find solutions.

it's funny though

the average we all wanna aim for is a 70% that's a C passing. But the actual average on any exam text quiz etc is actually supposed to be 50%. 50% meaning you're on average mark. 70% means you're on the average smart mark.
I believe they are flawed because it does not encompass the whole mind. Someday a group will make the near perfect technique, which will involve scanning the person's brain and running it through billions of quick simulations to see how far your brain model's cognition goes and how it reacts to different things.

The reason this is not perfect is because the brain scan IQ results are only for the instant the image was captured, your brain is changing and will not be the exact same model a year from the scan.
The ultimate intelligence test is to let someone do a task alone, with a result non-submitted to other's opinions. If you can't cheat with the result, it's often the best way to know if someone is relyable or not.
There was a mandatory iq test in elementary school where i live and i straight up refused to take it, calling it bs even as a child.
I told my teachers that i did not want to be judged by somebody else's idea of intelligence.

As a mental health professional of the last 10 years: yes, IQ tests are reliable. The stigma that they are unreliable comes from the insecurity of people.

IQ testing is standardized, and by that very nature situational and biased.

They can be used to get a general picture of "more or less" how intelligent one is, but not necessarily as a way to specifically grade someone in a ranking ladder.
Be honest OP, how low you got?
No, i quit mine. The moment they asked me how much time it takes for light to travel to Earth. The correct answer according to them was like 8 minutes and 20 seconds. That's not how it really works. Cause if there's absolutely nothing between the sun and your eyes, the first light you see is the one radiating from the closest particle near you. So it could be a second or a minute. Even the IQ test is rigged, cause the clock gives true smart people stress. And these type of question's like how fast light goes is to draw out those who know to much.
