Watch the event and you'll realise that's the whole point. They praise whatever's popular to maximise their audience.

Listen... they can make all sort sort weird awards. They can make The Golden Turd award, and award a game with it, if they want. Some people always think they mean something. But it sells, and that's probably part of how they run their business.
But you can only get a decent award when you have a group of highly qualified individuals that judge your material. Unless of course everyone votes, but that's not realistic.
Besides, that game isn´t even meant to be played with a joystick. That fact alone only should give you an indication of it´s relevance.

At any rate; it's not all that important what they think. What's important is what you think.

The game deserves its praise, the game is not pay to win and there is not loot crate based system. There is a free and premium batle pass sure but it is 100% optional and gives clear rewards, unlike most games and thier loot crate system.

I dont perticularly like the game(Just not good at it) but its not a bad or even over rated game.

So what are the prerequisites for being nominated as GOTY? I ask because I'm pretty sure Fortnite came out several years ago and its Battle Royale mode came out mid last year.

Award shows are garbage anyways, It's more or less give what's already popular and well known pointless attention to appease gamers. With that said, I will probably watch the VGAs in the hope that another "♥♥♥♥ the oscars" moment happens, that and to see the game reveals.
