Connection between Xenogears and Xenosaga
No spoilers please because I want to play them but beyond Zohar is there anything connecting the two series?

Some of the characters and psuedo religous themes. Xenogears is one of my favorite games and Xenosaga disappointed me greatly.

Thanks :) is Xenosaga still worth playing though?

Personaly, I would say no. I only played the first chapter though (each game is a chapter).

Xenogears is well worth playing. I loved that combat system and often wondered why it never became more popular. Only one other game used it (Legend of Legia or something?).

The story gets very complicated. It has a strong tendency to mention high fantasy aspects of the games lore and expect you to know them. On the upshot it does have a glossary so you can take the time to look it up. I found myself doing this frequently to keep up with the story. The combat is very dumbed down compared to xenogears. In the third episode, it got even worse where there did not seem to be major difference between any of the characters. If you play episode 1 then you have to play the next 2 in order to see how it ends. The graphics in xenosaga are very good, but it suffers from the problem of cut scenes being too long. I believe they are 2 cut scenes which border on a half hour long. Xenogears feels like a game. Xenosaga feels like a game developer really wanted to branch off into the movie business. If you played Xenogears and read the wiki for Xenosaga I don't feel like you would be missing much. Of the 3 I feel like Xenosaga episode 1 was the best.
Some Religious themes are all thst i see carry over aside from the occasional character.
Also applies to xenoblade games which have lots of call backs to Gears and Saga.

Oof... is Xenosaga's combat like Gear's turn based one or Blade's autoattack thing?
