Oh, dear.
William Shakespeare made a "Your mama joke!"
"Villain, I have done thy mother." :P

These jokes are ancient. :)

Yup, this is not becoming a culture. It's been part of culture for hundreds of years already.

Nonetheless, some 3,500 years ago, six riddles were inscribed on a clay tablet in Iraq that could very well have been laughed out loud funny in their time — and one may even contain the oldest “Yo Mama” joke known to man.

Today's category is:
TV shows that you couldn't get away with in modern times.

Every network would smush In Living Color these days for stereotyping.

I miss that era when we were able to understand that's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ point, because it's social ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ commentary. Instead of worrying about which famous online presence would interpret it the wrong way and start a social media war.

I don't know if it is that old.
But I do know it probably does predate the Roman Empire.

Me neither - i typed "oldest your mama joke in TV" into google and thought about some movies out of the 50´s or something - and then those results popped up, but i decided to take the MTV video. Usually if a joke is in TV You know it´s old. Forgot the quotes though...

That's nothing surprising. Valve has done jokes in past events.

Do note that is NOT the real reason.

That's just propaganda.

What the real reason is that big businesses are worried about image. Nothing more than that.

Who? I'm sorry, I don't get the reference.
Jacob Marlowe? From Scrooge?

You're thinking of Jacob Marley.

Christopher Marlowe was a contemporary of Shakespeare's, and while there's long-running conspiracy theories that he or the Earl of Oxford were the actual authors of all of Shakespeare's work, the play that particular line is from stylistically closer to Marlowe than Shakespeare and there's a good chance it was a collaborative work, or maybe Will and Chris were doing a deviantart-esqe art exchange.

It goes without saying that anti-stradfordians are all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane hacks, up to and including that ♥♥♥♥ Roland Emmerich.

True! Point well taken.

Indeed it's all about (I hate this word) "optics."
