Playstation Controller or Xbox Controller
Between these two which one is better designed in your opinion?

I prefer the Playstation one with the two central joysticks.

I prefer the DualShock's shape but I like the Xbox's compatibility.

Switch Pro is my goto for anything besides where pressure sensitive triggers are needed such as racing games in which case I use a DS4. It's most comfortable to hold and I love the D-pad.

The original Xbox controller was the size of a station wagon.

Nicely described. :)

Do you mean the old first-gen ones? If so, I'd agree, but I never had one of those. I do know that it was a design concern for Micro$oft, though, and that they made decisions for subsequent flights of that design so they'd be better for smaller hands.

I'm a normal sized guy, I guess. But, i have big hands... It physically hurts to use a tiny controller for any decent amount of time.

(I hate modern laptops, too, like the one I'm using atm. I have to lift both my thumbs out of the way of each other just to type on the darn thing. And, forget using a touchkey pad on a mobile phone... I can't. The ___'in things.)

****

Does anyone have any recommendations for top-quality Xbox/Windows game controllers? I mean "top quality" with Warranties, too.

The Xbox Elite controller series is pretty darn durable, but the only ones that can be reliably purchased, IMO, are from Microsoft online. (I keep running into refurbished ones in brick&mortar stores being sold as "new," I do have the Steam link thing, whatsits. But, I haven't even taken it out of its box... (Impulse buy)

up to now , I almost never had any games I could not make work with my playstation gamepad in some way or another , if I can't with steam input then I go for 360ce or just anti-micro..

I think that Doom 64 has problems with the PS4 controller because of the touch pad.
That game has problems with some kind of mouses (I have read it online) it lags worse than the oldest netbook potato trying to run Doom Eternal, and it does exactly the same with the PS4 controller plugged in, I unplug the controller and it runs perfectly, I keep the controller pugged (yes I still use the cable :P) and it becomes a slideshowì. So I'm sure it is because of the touch pad that my computer see as a mouse and it must be similar to the kind that Doom 64 has issues with...

i prefer the layout of the PS4 controller personally
i don't like the stick layout of the xbox controller
Can get along with both but the size of the Xbox one fits better.

Newer PS controllers have gyros. I'm used to the X360 layout, but the stock D-pad always sucked. Good thing I got it replaced with the revised one.

Neither are ideal imo

Playstation has worst feeling d-pad I've ever used in my life, Xbox has weird placement for left stick and d-pad which I'll never get used to, and both of them have bloody trigger buttons which I'll always hate.

so just give me a cheap 3rd party controller and I'll call it a day.

Xbox. My hands always feel really big on a PS controller, and the asymmetrical joysticks of the Xbox feel a lot more ergonomic. Hell, the Xbox controller just feels more ergonomic in general.

It's pretty telling that the PS5 controller took several design cues from the Xbox controller.

Oh right, there's also the fact that connecting an Xbox controller to a PC is a LOT less hassle. Connecting a Dualshock 4 to my PC requires so many finnicky, ridiculous workarounds it's not even funny.

PS4 for at least games like souls, Dualshock 4 is very good...

PS controllers always have been better than Xbox ones by a fair margin, idk probs the shape of the controller or the fact that the joysticks aren't aids.

Nah... that's just a matter of personal taste.

I mean have you seen this Joystick placement? Hell no. Also so bulky for my small hands.

And what's wrong about the thumbstick placement...:iamthink:

Haven't used PS4 but I do prefer the X1/360 controller over the DS3 and prior. The DS2 is alright but only if you can use the analogue controllers; PS1 games that don't support them are difficult to control. Same with the DS3 but the triggers make things even worse than the digital ones on the DS2 and mine seem to break all the time. I don't have much experience with the original Xbox controllers or anything from the original Playstation but I assume the *DS1 is pretty much the same as the DS2 and I can't imagine the original being much better however the lack of analogue sticks on games that don't use them may make things a bit less awkward. The launch Xbox controller was notoriously bad and the revision was supposedly better but still had less buttons than the DS2. As for PC 360/X1 controllers have a lot more support than PS4 controllers from what I hear and I don't even know if PS3 controllers work on PC at all. 6'th gen. and before probably don't either and would need adapters to even plug them in for both Xbox and Playstation.

*I'm curious. To anyone who had it in the day, were there any major differences between them sans the colors (although I believe there were Black DS1's)? I know the DS2 and DS3 have analogue face buttons but that was rarely used in games. Did that start with the DS2 or have all Playstation controllerss prior to the PS4 (though I heard somewhere they removed then but I may be misremembering) had them?
