Nintendo finally killing Wii U & 3DS
So Nintendo said they be shutting down the store portion only in March 2023, not the download section so can still download what you bought.
  • On May 2022 you no longer be able to use credit card to add funds to account via Wii U & 3DS.
  • On August 2022 you no longer be able to redeem eshop Wallet gift cards via Wii U & 3DS.
  • On March 2023 you no longer be able to redeem eshop codes via Wii U & 3DS, for any downloadable content, also demos, free-to-start software, passes such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, Theme Shop, Nintendo Badge Arcade and Pokémon Bank, will not be able to redownload.
  • For 3DS themes there be free themes that remain downloadable via the theme shop.
  • They did not disclose if they plan to cut off the download section of the platform for the Wii U & 3DS, nor did they disclose if they plan to shutdown the online multiplayer for games on those systems.

I hate them so much for this. Not only are they actively harming their customers, they've also ensured I won't be making any non-3DS gaming purchases for the foreseeable future.

So soon the only way you can play their games online is by paying for a subscription? I'm so glad I left the console trash practices behind and got a PC instead.

Now the only games I really care about from Nintendo are Donkey Kong Country and Super Smash Bros. Don't know if thats enough to make me buy anymore of their future devices.
You can't top up your balance with a credit card on 3DS already.
I've had to do it through the Nintendo website for a year or two now.

That why I also have trust issue with consoles such as Nintendo. I watch them kill off the DSi, and the Wii.

Maybe they do that for the Switch, but for other systems, no I don't think they do that at all really since they're shutting down the store, and I wouldn't be shock if the online section get pulled too maybe year or so after 2023.

I feel you on this, I mostly stay clear of console for myself because I knew at some point they pull the plug, which why I just buy retail game copies if I can for console, this way I know I'm not getting F what I bought via console because at some point they just shut it down to only support new console, and Nintendo does this two times already, Sony was thinking of doing it too for PSP, and PS3, but knew it was a bad idea with amount of backlash they got for even thinking of doing it, only thing that be kiilled off was PSP store, but still be able to download if I remember right.

I was planning on playing some more games on my 3DS too... I suppose there's still a bit of time left

Thanks for pointing this out.

I still nose on the WiiU store to see what games go on sale all the time. Rarely does much good stuff turn up but I still do watch it nonetheless as you can get some good deals.

So I'll bear this in mind, cheers.

Thankfully I've got everything I've bought downloaded on an external USB drive already, but I might make a backup just in case.

This is why I love PC gaming.

This platform never gets "depreciated". What's stopping me from playing games from 10, 20, 30+ years ago? Hardware changes sometimes complicate that, but really nothing with the right workarounds. I can happily fire up Commander Keen today on modern hardware. I can even install it from the original floppy disk if I want with a cheap USB floppy drive. Good luck cramming an NES cartridge into your Switch. Oh, you want to play the original Legend of Zelda? Cough up the cash for the subscription service. Never mind that you already bought the game on NES, Gameboy Advance, DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. Those are the old platforms.

I hope console makers, Nintendo included, hit a wall where creating their own walled-garden hardware platforms is no longer profitable enough to make it worth it. Everything sort of merges into PC. You'll still have "consoles" and "handhelds", but they'll be PCs.

Glad I bought a bunch of the Shin Megami Tensei catalog while it was on sale a month or two ago (along with Pokemon Crystal per someones recommendation here)

It's safe to say that the best games the 3DS have to offer already exist, and the Wii U has long been overshadowed by the Switch, so no big hit there..

...but here's to hoping they don't kill MP, cause that would suck.

I hope development on Citra continues so using a touchpad controller in place of a touchscreen becomes easier. Or using gyroscope controller for Prime 3 in Dolphin.

Since they still haven't bothered announcing the Zelda HD collection or Mother 3 for Switch, it's clear Nintendo doesn't want money.

And none of it will transfer to the Switch.

They'll resell everything on it and wonder why gamers get mad.

Unfortunately the Nintendo fan base will and still are mindlessly defending the company and still give them money for full price, even with all the anti customer practices, nor even care about anything. Good luck trying to convince them or tell them the truth, let alone telling what you posted to them. (And I thought the modern PlayStation "fans" were that deluded, and I am speaking as a long time PS fan since the turn of the millennium with the PS2 and PS1 as far as consoles are concerned)

Free online gone from Nintendo consoles, hooray
Still won't convince me to pay that Switch Online BS
