Now the only games I really care about from Nintendo are Donkey Kong Country and Super Smash Bros. Don't know if thats enough to make me buy anymore of their future devices.
I've had to do it through the Nintendo website for a year or two now.
Maybe they do that for the Switch, but for other systems, no I don't think they do that at all really since they're shutting down the store, and I wouldn't be shock if the online section get pulled too maybe year or so after 2023.
I feel you on this, I mostly stay clear of console for myself because I knew at some point they pull the plug, which why I just buy retail game copies if I can for console, this way I know I'm not getting F what I bought via console because at some point they just shut it down to only support new console, and Nintendo does this two times already, Sony was thinking of doing it too for PSP, and PS3, but knew it was a bad idea with amount of backlash they got for even thinking of doing it, only thing that be kiilled off was PSP store, but still be able to download if I remember right.
I still nose on the WiiU store to see what games go on sale all the time. Rarely does much good stuff turn up but I still do watch it nonetheless as you can get some good deals.
So I'll bear this in mind, cheers.
Thankfully I've got everything I've bought downloaded on an external USB drive already, but I might make a backup just in case.
This platform never gets "depreciated". What's stopping me from playing games from 10, 20, 30+ years ago? Hardware changes sometimes complicate that, but really nothing with the right workarounds. I can happily fire up Commander Keen today on modern hardware. I can even install it from the original floppy disk if I want with a cheap USB floppy drive. Good luck cramming an NES cartridge into your Switch. Oh, you want to play the original Legend of Zelda? Cough up the cash for the subscription service. Never mind that you already bought the game on NES, Gameboy Advance, DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. Those are the old platforms.
I hope console makers, Nintendo included, hit a wall where creating their own walled-garden hardware platforms is no longer profitable enough to make it worth it. Everything sort of merges into PC. You'll still have "consoles" and "handhelds", but they'll be PCs.
It's safe to say that the best games the 3DS have to offer already exist, and the Wii U has long been overshadowed by the Switch, so no big hit there..
...but here's to hoping they don't kill MP, cause that would suck.
I hope development on Citra continues so using a touchpad controller in place of a touchscreen becomes easier. Or using gyroscope controller for Prime 3 in Dolphin.
Since they still haven't bothered announcing the Zelda HD collection or Mother 3 for Switch, it's clear Nintendo doesn't want money.
Going to miss Sun/moon, my favorite pokemon games of all time. Going to miss Z moves, megas, every legendary being in a single generation along with every pokemon.
Fantasy life
Pokemon red/blue/crystal/gold etc
They'll resell everything on it and wonder why gamers get mad.
Idk, the way monster hunter is going maybe 3/4 remakes will be on steam.
Unfortunately the Nintendo fan base will and still are mindlessly defending the company and still give them money for full price, even with all the anti customer practices, nor even care about anything. Good luck trying to convince them or tell them the truth, let alone telling what you posted to them. (And I thought the modern PlayStation "fans" were that deluded, and I am speaking as a long time PS fan since the turn of the millennium with the PS2 and PS1 as far as consoles are concerned)
Still won't convince me to pay that Switch Online BS
