Probably since they pushed the release date from September to December as well.
To be fair, Piranha Games, the developers of both Mechwarrior Online and Mechwarrior 5, kind of killed their community off with Mechwarrior Online.
People were generally either expecting MechWarrior 5 to be a horribly unfinished / broken game, or for them to go for the Epic Games' Bribe-Money via exclusivity.
In any case, I don't think they'll be holding onto the license for much longer, as I doubt they'll get it renewed due to both failures from MechWarrior Online and angering their remaining, small, community with Mechwarrior 5's exclusivity.
In the meantime, mech fans on Steam and GoG have BattleTech, which was developed by a better studio, to look forward to. Different gameplay, but at least it has a better developer than Mechwarrior.
Pretty much. Even during the few Gameplay Videos Piranha released for Mechwarrior 5... the community's reaction was one of caution due to the super easy/simplistic gameplay and design choices. It also didn't help that pretty much every player in the videos was practically at a potato skill level.
From my experience, pretty much the only people going to buy Mechwarrior 5 are the super hardcore "brainwashed" Mechwarrior fans; whose mindset is "Guys we need to support Mechwarrior to show people still care about and want it!!!" ... at this point let it die and hope someone else revitalizes it or go back to Table Top.
Really sucks though, I was willing to give MW 5 a chance but the delay + move to Epic signifies they aren't confident in their product and want to ensure profits, IMO. Which means it's probably going to be a bad game... :/
If I'm not mistaken, I think their license for the Mechwarrior IP is running out soon too isn't it?
They're probably trying to cash in on the IP the most they can while they still have the IP.
Ahh well, I got my Wolfenstein Cyberpilot VR game to make me feel like a real mech doggie with flamethrower!
We're also forgetting the fact that Piranha Games' CEO literally lied to their fans' faces. When they removed all mentions of Steam from the FAQ for Mechwarrior 5, people worried about Epic Games Exclusivity, their CEO said it was just a site change and nothing more. Days later, "We're Epic Exclusive now", and cue the outrage, not just because of exclusivity, but because the CEO lied to the fans of the game.
I have no respect for CEOs that do crap like that.
People need to get some goals and meaning in their life if things like this are a big deal to them. It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ video game, the world will still keep turning.
That is mainly the issue, tbh.
Exclusives I have no issues with (especially limited ones), but games already bound for one platform, then do a sudden shift like that kills me.
I won't buy from Epic due to how their deal with games I was interested in (Fortnite: Save the world is DOA as they won't be updating it and STILL has not gone free 2 play. Unreal Tournament is dead and not being worked on either) more then anything, but these pulling the rug out from under users is is ridiculous.
All this is just my personal opinion, btw.
Any Company, who's CEO lies to their customer's faces, loses my respect. That's not limited to just Game Developers, if a CEO of any company comes out and does crap like that, then I tend to not buy from that company or spend money on them, and go to the alternatives.
Not being Mad at a CEO making decisions that negatively impact you, or lying to your face, is what allows more of them to do it. If nobody got mad at Companies for pulling crap like that, then they'd all do it, which is why people should attack those companies, because they lied to them, and to prevent other companies from doing the same thing, because if Company A that lied to you gets a free-pass, Company B will be more likely to do it as well as they see no downside to it.
Oh man, don't remind of Save the World... I literally only got into Fortnite because of that mode. I saw that it was P2Early Access so was skittish but interested since I love those kinds of Co-Op games. Then they did the "Battle Royale" Update that "Test a new mode, free! For a limited time" to see if such a mode would be popular since a lot of people were asking for a PvP mode. Tried out a few hours of Battle Royale, liked the gameplay and though a PvE would be awesome... bought the Pass for Save the World... Had fun with a couple of friends and eagerly awaited more content... And then Fortnite exploded and they dropped StW... That's why I hate Fortnite lol.
I'm not entirely certain, as I've never used the Epic Launcher (and have no plans to), but their own in-house developed games, namely Fortnite Save-The-World, and Unreal Tournament, were both abandoned due to the success of Fortnite BR. It seems to me like Epic Games' only cares about making games or developing things that can bring in revenue similar to Fortnite, since all their developers are shifted to it for the most part.
Unreal Tournament
Fortnite Save-The-World
Paragon
All Epic Games' developed games, all dead, abandoned, or cancelled because they failed to be as successful as Fortnite.
That being said, I kind of wonder, what if the Epic Games Store is in the same bucket, what if it fails to meet projected profits or Fortnite-level revenue, will they just can that effort too?
So far the only consistent thing they've made that hasn't been cancelled, and won't lose it's userbase like Fortnite, is probably the Unreal Engine itself. Everything else with them is a gamble of how long it'll be up before they abandon it.
