Question.
If I reject someone's friend invitation on Steam, does he know that I rejected him? Like is there a notification of him being rejected? Thanks.

no it will show on their friends list pending requests, if you decline you will just disappear off their pending requests.

The waiting for X to accept message disappears from YOUR friends list(if you're even showing that section based on your settings).

So....they would know that I ignored them? I mean, they knew that I pressed "ignore"?

Yeah. and it comes with a very rude pop-up message to inform them they got rejected. by you.

Steam doesn't send out an explicit "Friend request denied" message, but obviously, the "Add friend" button goes back to normal when the request is denied. It should be easy for the user to infer what that means.

right...but I have little OCD by looking at my existing notifications, and I want to keep them cleared. But it's mixed decision when it comes to someone asking me for friendship..I mean, I can't just say yes to everyone, i got too many useless so called "friends", but then I don't want to them to know that I rejected them.

and remember this , people who adds you for no reason are either trolls or scammers

You can save yourself the trouble by just blocking anyone & everyone who you don't feel like being friends with right now, in advance.

Then they never click "Add Friend" and get their hopes up in the first place - and you don't have to get bothered with notifications. Win win.

You can unblock them when you're ready to be social again.
...although, by that point, they might be offended about the message they got when trying to add you while blocked. *shrug*

I have one person on my friend list (who, I consider a pretty close & important friend actually) who I never actually blocked, though, that supposedly got that message when he tried to add me - so... I don't know, I guess sometimes people get the "you've been blocked" message by mistake & that alone makes claiming that "it must have just been a mistake" a pretty plausible excuse.

...well, except for the fact that most people just believe that the system always works properly 100% of the time
(hahahahaha... they've clearly never used this service on a Tuesday (afternoon in America)).

Well, they're going to know eventually after some time has passed and you're not on their friends list.

Rule of threes:
- Get a request you don't want to accept? Reject it and move on.

- They send a second request? Reject again, and maybe give them the benefit of the doubt that they wanted to be sure you meant to reject it the first time.

- They send a third request? Well then they just can't take "no" for an answer at that point. Reject and block.

In this case, yea through a game, I was a good player and I was being patient with him. I checked his profile (it wasn’t private like mine) and he got like 1.5k hours on it, I got like 1.8k+ hours, BUT I got too many friends playing this same game lol, and I don’t want to add another, and I didn’t want to be rude.

Being rude is when you actually accept the request then say things to make the other person scared & unhappy.

"A rolling stone gathers no moss."

...and a truck that passes by you as you stand on a highway intersection shouldn't be of any further concern to you once it is gone.
...At least until the next time you two cross paths & have an opportunity to either stop & chat or keep going.

Accept it, then message and say "I currently don't wish to be friends with you because my concerns are XYZ". Give that last chance to the other person to help address your concerns before you delete. Sometimes it can be a wrong conclusion and a potential friendship being cut off.

People are human beings, not robots. They deserve an update.

I feel people who ignore or block are just timid. Jumping into self drawn conclusions without even knowing the other person. Be bigger. Scare of the person knowing you delete them? Scare of offending? Scare of this and that? How much longer must we be scared in our life. Just talk to the person and update.

Item Traders usually put "Message me on why you're adding me" on profile. That works in scam prevention and random adds too.
