Just wondering something about Epic games
How does Epic games afford to give off free games? I'm just curious, while I appreciate the games I get for free, but was just wondering if there's any more explanation to it aside from getting people to use their launcher.

It doesn't. It takes the loss in the hopes of building it's user base. The excess money from Fortnite and the Unreal Engine are going into supporting the store. They don't even expect to start making money from it for a few more years and then it won't be profitable for many more as they have to make up for what they put into it.

You're opinion wise though, do you think it's working, building it's user base? I mean, I don't speak for everyone, but it's hard to say no to free and seemingly innocent free stuff.

We'll see in a few years. It's not us old-schoolers they're after, and we'll be out of the market sooner than the impressionable youngin's.

They invest the money they make in giving out games

i think it will work, if you already have the game you want to play on why would you buy it again on another store?
most people buy games for the game, usually the customer doesnt care who is selling it, otherwise steam wouldnt have gained traction, would it?
You get what you pay for.

Lots of reviews on games that took up the one-year exclusivity deal with Epic are from players who say, "Played this on Epic and been waiting a year to buy it on Steam."

Personally, I don't understand why some people will buy multiple copies of the same game, but I see that sort of review often enough that it doesn't seem as rare as I'd think.

So far as "will it work?" We have no way of knowing. Epic Games is a privately-held corporation and are not required to issue annual financial statements. We, as the general public, have no definitive information on Epic's financial situation. They could be on the verge of bankruptcy or they can have their coffers full of foreign investments. We just don't know.

Probably. I mean while Fortnite isn't my cup of tea, it still is a game that catches a lot of younger peoples attention that's only available on their platform. I've seen people "boycott" games because it was made launcher exclusive for a year, but who knows how it ends up in reality.

I think aside from multiplayer games, one of the main reasons people buy games on steam even after playing it on the epic game launcher is because of the achievements you get. It feels like a pride thing to achieve those. I mean, even I like getting achievements, even if it's just in games, better if it's in real life too.

Is it just me, or is the OP really seeming rather....peculiar?

Yep, one of the main reasons I actually got the launcher in the first place. Not to mention, some developers are actually using UE as their go to platforms already.

Peculiar how?

Epic is doing the free games thing because they have a (near) majority of shareholders in Tencent, who answer directly to the Chinese government, and if you know anything at all about China's government, you'll know quality is not job number 1 when it comes to any kind of marketplace ideals they hold.
Quality is the least of my concerns when dealing with anything tied to the Chinese govt. (which I noticed you hinted at further down in the comment).

Peculiar in a way as if he (which means you) is trying to....I don't know, lead the conversation into a particular direction rather than allowing it to proceed naturally.

Ah pardon about that if it feels that way, I just try to reply to everyone without trying to bring up some specific topics. Especially anything that goes around "tencent" and what not since that one seems to always spark arguments with people. I've hung around Warframe discussions long enough to know that those kinds of topics never ends well for the people that starts it and ends up in a heated discussion.

Though since you did bring it up. Which direction to be specific? I'm curious since maybe it's because of how the manner I type stuff at discussions that it seems I'm leading this to a specific direction. So I can fix it when I post stuff again.
