Origin of your nicks and a story behind them? My story also.
Origin of your nicks and a story behind them? My story also.
I ran an online BBS from 1987-1988. Anyway, I took it offline 33 years ago and my nick back then was "Bugz Bunny". I was pretty well known in the exploit/phreaking scene and you could see my nick in many cracktros. Knew a few of the guys from Paradigm, Eaglesoft Inc, etc, etc. Bugs was my fave cartoon character, so I modified his name a bit, and voila, my nick. Silly, eh?

Then around 1996 I changed my name to Delphinus Minor, which is Latin for "little dolphin", since I am a navy certified SCUBA diver. As time went on I shortened it to "Delphinus" and now I just use Del. My real name is actually Jason.

I have been on Steam nearly 17 years and never really introduced myself, or told my story because when steam first went online it was primarily just used as a place to collate your games. Most of us were still buying optical media and many of my fave titles I had to buy again, which I don't mind. Those devs deserve that.

I plan to write a book sometime about my underground "career" and will be including the time my group and I got busted after we created a shell account at a well known bank and stole a penny from 50,000 accounts and deposited them into the shell account(Group was called TFF, or The Fantastic Four. Lame, isn't it? We were teens and it was 1986.)

So, we got caught and we never got charged. The reason no charged were laid is because my parents, our parents, and us teens agreed to never mention which bank we violated. The reason? This bank definitely did not want their clients/customers to know some punks accessed their accounts, got by their security and stole from them.

I then got very heavily involved in exploiting mainframes via datapac numbers, and placing servU daemons on university servers remotely, or "pubstros", so that 0 day and 0 second FXP groups could fill them up with all kind of goodness. That is well behind me now as well. I'm now just some has been that lives in the past but really enjoys sharing and I really hope people enjoy reading my stories.

Was it wrong? Depends on what you think of banks and whatnot, but legally, yes, very wrong, but in my opinion not immoral. But that was a different time, and that kid is long gone, but he dwells inside of me.

So that is my story. I never really started to get into Steam forums until recently. Most of my posts are older game related posts and pretty vanilla. I have some serious health issues now and want to talk about all of this to strangers.

Thank you for reading this wall of text.

Someone.. please... help....

On a serious note...

I understand why you would not want your origin story up.

I have posted mine so many in times in various similar thread (just this year) but well... short version..

In the 80´s people was under the impression I had a "Dark mind" being abit to philosophical.. thus.. they called me Darkie... I have had minor changes from time to time up until the late 90´s like when I had my FTP server, it was a "DarkFTP" etc.. always something with Dark.

I do have another nick as well, that is not given and not officially used.

Interesting. I ran a 0sec/0day FTP server for around 20 years called The App Shack.

And now it is the name of my Youtube Channel.

My intro;

I have heterochromia, my right eye is blue and my left eye is brown. That is why the dude in my intro has it also. A well known animator that works for a very well known company made that but I am not allowed to say who did it.

ThHose are the Commodore colors.

Probably good that what he did is past the statue of limitations as well. Would make a good read, I'd bet.

Yea, was over 34 years ago. I won't ever name the institution though. That was a lifetime NDA.

Well yeah, of course you wouldn't. Some things are best not said.

Been a long day and I don't sleep much but am going to try to get some now. Good night all and thank you for adding to this thread. I read every reply. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like and I'll accept later today when I sign back in. Regards.
When I originally created this Steam account, I put my username to "Pacman5151", and it was sort of a random username that I came up with. I have changed my username to other usernames like "Nuclear5151" and "Doomsday5151", but I thought I'd stick to a simple one-word username, and I changed my username to "Pacman", and I'm planing to stick to this username, so that I will still remain recognizable to my friends on steam who knew me ever since I was newer to Steam.
It's a reference to a Philip K ♥♥♥♥ book named "Radio Free Albemuth".

Stuart Hamm, bass player for Joe Satriani amongst others, released a solo album in which there was a song which was also called "Radio Free Albemuth".

I love Sci-fi, and I love bass, so the name was almost given to me. I changed it a bit to sound more "french" and a bit sillier.
Time-wise I don't compare even closely. Only about ten years ago was when I got a nickname of some sort, BorbingoBoy... I'm very glad I decided to completely replace it with my current one. It was just a combination of words. The new one I have also come up with, I just needed a better name to represent in the fandom. Eventually (somewhat recently, even) I adapted it as my main online nick.
I liked wolves since at that time i recently become a furry, and i was obsessed with a vocaloid song called "Broadcast Illusion" where the main character was hypnotizing the whole country through the television broadcast. And i thought... Hypno_Wolf... sounds kinda cool.
With the current one, well I don't think any explanation has to be given.

Most of them were due to random ideas.

Pain Elemental R6S was due to someguy calling themself "cacodemon tf2", so I thought I would just copy them like that. I chose Rainbow Six Siege randomly, despite never even having played it, because it was the only thing I could think of at the time that fit.

Kabuki dialog is ASMR-esque eargasm that turns me on almost as much as classic dialup noise and the Genesis sound chip and the Toys 'R' Us song.

Couldn't find a name after many tries on PSN... ended up mixing Daxter and Clank > Daxank
It's also my profile picture and my channel's mascot
I've had a few names on this account over the years. My original name on here was bigjack and that was like... nearly 11 years ago... I think? Anyway, it was in reference to the weight problem that I had at the time.

I never really had a name I could settle on until the one. I had a dog that recently passed away, her name was Poppy, but I gave her the nickname Squiggy and then it became Captain Squiggy, because she was a little bit of a space cadet.

So I decided to keep the name to remind myself of her, bit daft I know, but it's my way of remembering her.

This may not be the best forum to chat with strangers about your serious health issues. I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Please seek assistance from your local physician, social worker, and/or therapist regarding personal health concerns. Although the views and opinions expressed on Steam OT may provide some friendly kinship or banter, there are many (oftentimes free) resources and forums for people with health concerns that may be better.
One online resource I have been on for many years is dailystrength.org Totally free online resource for whatever ails you with a very amicable community.
