What are your "red flags" in gaming?
Something that when you see it, it makes you skeptical of a game's success or quality.

Of course they're not 100% accurate, but when you follow the industry for a while, you notice some tells and patterns like these.

Like, for me when the devs try to force a hip label like "The Dark Souls of FPS" or "The -popular game- Killer". That's a red flag.

When the DLC costs more than the base game and there is a ridiculous amount of it.

Early access survival.

Then maybe the red flag was inside your heart all along.

When someone says "good luck, have fun" I already know that they're gonna be toxic when things go wrong.

Any game which calls itself a roguelike but is not like Rogue - regardless of it's adherence to the Berlin Interpretation - is one which I'll likely not play. Also, it goes without saying that if a game is an asset flip or a port of some kusoge, mobage or gachage, that I'd rather not pay it any heed whatsoever. Furthermore, multiplats irk me as do devs who insist upon making such, and if the malware known as DRM is present, that's a lost sale on my part.

Otherwise, same standard protocol applies - certain devs or publishers I refuse to give money to, I dislike point and click adventure games as well as the bulk of twin stick shooters, and if your game isn't in English I'm not giving you money.

Usually Free2play games. If the devs don't charge any money for the game itself, you can expect that it'll have microtransactions or expensive DLC's, now or in the future.

Also for 'paid' games I can expect a certain level of quality which is not the case for f2p games.

But Windows 7 isnt supported anymore... I dont see the problem there

Poor wording. Some games are still coming out for Win7. Not interested in upgrading it further. Worst case, I'd rather cut my losses and switch to Linux and look into Proton than put up with Microsoft's bloatware.

When it sounds good to be true.... it most likely is. To be specific, there was one game I was somewhat waiting for. It was a life MMORPG game where you get to roleplay... well life. The game dev claimed that you can be whoever you want to be as well as get your own residence. The trailers that came with the game was actually GOOD. And it looked convincing. But unsurprisingly, the gamedev was lying and took people's money donation.

I don't remember the name of the game anymore and If I can recall, the gamedev literally ran away with people's money only to not be heard from again.

My red flags:

"JRPG" ... 🚩

"Anime" ... 🚩

"Deckbuilding" ... 🚩

"MMO" ... 🚩🚩

"Multiplayer" ... 🚩🚩

"PvP" ... 🚩🚩🚩

"Early Access" ... 🚩🚩🚩

"Microtransactions" ... 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩

(There are some others but those are the ones that come most readily to mind.)

🤔

In some cases EA has no red flags at all for me, in other situations they have.. it all depends on the context and that is my point.. It depends on the situation, many things can be a red flag.
lootboxes

F2P (generally), microtransactions, EA, Activision, big franchises, and AAA games in general nowadays.

Well that was pretty broad. Not a big surprise considering I generally play just one game.

Well, my only red flag in a game is if I don't like the gameplay e.g watching gameplay footage on youtube.

I see alot of people here dislike day one DLC, micro transactions, F2P, online only, loot boxes and so on but will still continue to buy said games that contain these elements. Clearly there is a fine line between not liking something and speaking up against it e.g loot boxes and hypocrisy by turning a blind eye to your favour games.
