does 480P suck now?
wasnt there a time when 480p was good quality? now its in the same low tier as 240p
now we need 1080 to get the current HD video and some people dont even bother upgrading and the video is crap. whats next, needing to upgrade to super 4K and 8K to get ultra HD? idk

480p is fine if you want to save bandwidth. depends on the kind of video you're watching. the more details in the video, the higher you want the resolution. but if it's just like a youtube video of someone talking, then 480 is just fine and saves bandwidth.

1080 sucks up so much bandwidth that I don't even use it even with my unlimited high speed internet. it's just a waste when 720p60 is good enough for just about everything.

for games it depends on your screen but 900p or 720p is fine on slower paced games. I use 720p on newer games that my hardware can't handle and it's honestly not that big of a deal. would never play a game at 480p though.

Technology changes.

(Random but related funny story)
I remember playing PS3 CoD on an old school tube TV. It was so low quality that I couldn't read the subtitles for missions and I had to stick BluTac (sticky gum) on the TV to use it as a gun sight reticle.

I think most people still had an SDTV when the PS3 released. I did, at least. And yeah, the tininess of the text was borderline a dealbreaker

Check the Steam Hardware Survey. The vast majority of users are still gaming at 1080p.

That's fake news and will magically go away with some bleach and uv light.

Stop proving me wrong, I can't handle being wrong and being corrected with actual facts! lol :)

ps: Thanks for the correction, interesting results

Sounds like you must have a 1440p screen then.
Yeah nope, 1080p is still holding very strong. Not sure if it's very compelling to ugrade.

It depends on what youre watching on, 480p looks good on a phone

480p is fine. I still warch DVD's all the time and they aren't even progressive technically. 360i even looks good on a CRT (not on anything else though).

Realistically, if you can see clearly and if the visual has good clarity then it's fine. That is if we're talking about gaming here 480p is NOT good unfortunately. At the very least go for 720p.

480p is Wii I think? I can't play the Wii anymore. Traded it in.
the gba screen is like 240 x 160 and it's still got some of the best looking 2D games made for it.

Ha! Tell that to intergrated graphics and low end video cards. 1080 is still king,

And how! Thanks to gaming's obsession with higher resolution and frame rate, you can still enjoy the latest games on potato hardware, just scaled down to lower resolutions and settling with a low (but still playable) framerate.

I remember reading that some games were still interlaced and some were 480p (even though being sub-720p was considered a negative for both its rivals). I don't know which games were which. If we are going by Consoles the Gamecube Xbox PS2 and Dreamcast also had 480p games and I believe there are lists online. They were pretty common for the Xbox/DC/GC (assuming you had the correct cables for them) but was somewhat uncommon/rare on PS2.

It was also pretty common for PC games from the mid to late 90s. I remember my old 486 used to struggle to run some games at 640x480 at a smooth framerate.
I still play JC3 at 640x480.
I been playing Fallout 4 in 800 x 450 just so I can put an Insane ammount of filters and effects with reshade , sometime graphics is more then just the ammount of pixels being shown to you.

high resolution also have the side effect of having the flaws in the game models and textures being made more obvious and right up in your face.
