Unless school busses count, I guess. Technically publicly-funded.
Driving.
Back in college when commuting into Los Angeles from outside of Los Angeles, it is faster and cheaper to drive than taking the train and buses, and a lot safer not having to worry about getting stabbed or mugged or stepping on needles, and much cleaner not having to smell pee and puke all the time from drug addicts and hobos.
I had to commute 50 miles each way in a car that got about 25mpg. Train and bus passes cost over $22+ per day. I was only using about $8-$12 in gas for the same trip. And every time some train derailed or got sued, the ticket prices would go up.
The 50 mile commute by a combination of trains and buses took about 3-5 hours, sometimes more with delays and and even longer with all the people that would commit suicide by train.
That same trip only took about 1-2 hours by car in the worst traffic in the USA.
I drive for everything else like groceries and recreation like going to the gym/swimming.
Free and can avoid hobos that would be on the bus or at the bus terminals.
And the less I am exposed to the public, the better.
word.
My hometown doesn't have any real public transport, so I drive. And I enjoy it.
I mean, FFS, we were talking about this forever and a day ago.
I'd *much* rather take public transportation (the industry I worked in for most of my adult life), but it has to take me where I need to go, when I need to be there, and without a half dozen transfers or waiting longer than ten minutes either way, anywhere along the route.
That'll never happen where I live though, so I'm sticking with my car.
