You should be more selective on what you put in the compost. Not everything should be put in the compost. I would not suggest meats as they can draw pests like flies, rats and others. They can also produce pathogens and harmful bacteria.
Yep, they eat around living flesh and only eat the dead flesh. A good way for doctors to remove the dead flesh and minimize the amount of healthy flesh that would need to be removed.
Leaches are another one that modern medicine brought back, though used for a different reason. They help promote circulation in severed limbs and such.
