Pepe emoticons are gone for good, your thoughts?
For those of you who missed it, the creator of Pepe filed a copyright claim and Steam removed all the Pepe emoticons from Steam. Well, sorta. Anyone who owns one just gets a blank space when they use it.

What do you all think about it?

Personally, I find it hilarious that they're gone.

It's kind of ironic if you think about it. Trolls getting trolled.
they didn't get a refund?

is that not as illegal, if not more illegal than using someone's art as an emoticon?

right, I forgot, illegal doesn't apply to companies.

Valve wasn't selling pepe emoticons. Users were. If they have a problem with losing that emoticon, they should take it up with the publishers of these trashgames that they got the emoticons from, such as Fergus the Fly, Jumping Tank and Cucumber Blues, all shoddy unity asset flips that were solely designed to sell emoticons and trading cards.

It wasn't Valve taking advantage of people. It was those "developers" and I hesitate to use that word.

Is the guy that made Pepe really still at this? I don't see the point, most of the people using it in a way he dislikes are on 4(redacted), and he can't exactly stop them from doing it.
But he does have a right to stop people from using it as part of a commercial product he didn't approve.
Oh, I'm not denying that he has the right to do it, I'm just saying what he's doing will ultimately accomplish nothing. If anything, it will fuel the fire even more, and people will use Pepe to spite the guy.

I'm happy that I got them via badge crafting but..... Tis unfortunate. It was one of my favorite emoticons. I don't know what that says about me. :yawning_creep:

I sold a Pepe because it was laying around in my inventory and never bothered to sell it until recently.

The meme should burn in hell.

He's not trying to DMCA every meme copy & pasted online though. He's DMCA'ing commercial use of it without permission and people using it as a symbol of hate, racism and bigotry. So I mean if some nazi-wannabe piece of crap thinks they're sticking it to this guy by posting pepe memes online, golf clap for them I guess but of course they're still a massive human piece of crap. So kind of a shallow victory there.

It's unfortunate that a poor defenseless meme was co-opted by some giggling insecure manchildren with an inferiority complex who are an embarrassment to the human race.

valve does have to bear some responsibility, they approve of everything that is sold on THEIR market. They shoulder some of the blame for allowing content to be sold without checking if the original creator approved.

I don't understand what people have against them.

You're under the impression Pepe is only ever used by "nazy-wannabe piece('s) of crap".
At the end of the day, it was a harmless web comic that someone turned into a meme, and it just spun out of control from there.

Though I agree people shouldn't use it commercially under any circumstance.

I didn't say it was "only ever used" by nazi-manchildren. I said that the creator has been DMCA'ing it when used commercially and/or for purposes of spreading racism and bigotry. You're right that it was originally just a harmless comic/meme. Like I pointed out, it was co-opted by these sad nazi kids who when challenged will just say "ha ha its just a meme" because they are too cowardly to admit what they believe in.

They seem to think that by being a piece of human s*** on a daily basis that they have somehow won the internet and that's basically what they live for. It would be sad if it wasn't self-inflicted.

It's not really, but "nazis" apparently "took over the symbol" somehow.
