Profanity Filter
This post is just a minor rant about something irrelevant and likely unworthy of consideration.

It deeply bothers me that now Valve has decided to apply their profanity filter in people's personal profiles' infoboxes, summaries, and name under the username. Instead of just keeping it where it should belong, the forums and comment sections.

Before on your profile, you could type down any profanity word, and it would not be censored.
And this was never really a problem. For the most part, there was only mild profanity there.
But now they brought those little hearts there, too.

I think this filter is more suited for public forums and comment sections, and that personal profiles should just be left alone.

And now, even that isn't allowed. And it just doesn't sit well with me.
Does this bother anyone else, or am I just being too much of a crybaby here?

Interestingly enough, you can still use a profanity word in your main username.

Regardless. What are your thoughts on this?

I'd prefer it if steam keeps their filters to a minimum too.

And just like happened wih reviews comments I've already seen complaints on why the default state of the filter has to be 'ON'
Which IMO offers an interesting subtext on user behavior for future analysis. Interestingly It seems it's still not enough to have a filter toggle, it also has to be disabled for everyone by default.

Correct. The rules have NOT changed despite this new feature.
I turned all my filters and stuff off because I prefer it that way. I dont see a reason to get at all worked up over someone else keeping them on. Though yeah they are set to filter by default which some whine about but it only takes a few seconds to change it anyway and I see no issues with that.

The read one can take from complaining about the default state is for some it's not as much about them being able to see swear words as it is for their swear words to be seen by others.

To me certain words are expression of frustration or anger. When I use ♥♥♥♥ that's to replace whatever could be said because I'm too annoyed to articulate.

Maybe I'll begin using Flock from here on. Get the flock out of here before I flock you up mother flocker. What the flock?

They're just stupid words. Guess what? If people didn't go out of their way to censor this junk and make a big deal of nothing all of these censored words would mean as much as ... Poop or maggot or doofus.

It only matters because people care. WHY? That's the mystery.

Wow, you feel that strongly about cussin'?

Why?

I only really find it annoying because on the forums you can still check what's underneath the hearts by pressing the quote button and reading it in the box where you type your message. Sometimes it wasn't easy to tell what someone wrote based on context, so it was nice to have.

Steam profiles don't have that capability so it's rather annoying to not know for certain what someone says.

I don't like that it censors certain words that arguable aren't swearwords, and doesn't censor ones that arguable are.

I believe "damn" should come through just fine.

But I think "Schmuck" is censored.
"Watchmojo" should still be censored as well. I think it's unnecessary since their biggest crime is an abundance of garbage clickbait lists, but I wouldn't change it if I had the choice because ♥♥♥♥ 'em.

Wait, when did watchmojo get uncensored?

Because when a person is wasting time and pissing someone off it's much easier to let them know. "GO NOW! BEFORE I BREAK YOUR NECK! GO!" Certain words are great for expressing that. And that's when people use those words, while they're annoyed or enraged. :)

If they're not willing to spend the time to articulate then it's not worth their time, take the hint.

I don't mind Profanity Words being used, but I've been finding myself Filtering them out
of my Conversations with people Online quite a bit over the Years.

I just never felt like there was any need for it Online.

You trying to say that? Their trying to get people to Display Hearts on purpose?
or you had something else in Mind?

I never really understood the point of work Filters, cause you can totally read what
is written when the Filters appear, they don't really do the greatest Job around.

It'll stop edgelords polluting their own profiles with n-word spam.

Should be optional to me...

It IS now. That's the point of the bump I gave it.
