There's a big difference between doing a thing for fun and doing that same thing as a job, it became stressful. It went from "solving issues I happen to be familiar with" to "streams of people bringing me issues expecting me to have the answer." From "lol Cookie's trolling a troll" to "hey Cookie why you keep letting these trolls get in here."

Looking back at it, now I know I was actually doing the job of 4 people: a CM, a Dev liaison, and at least 2 moderators, but hindsight and pidgeon farts are of equal value, and after about a year and a half the stress broke me.

I would never do it again.

Exactly. I just like having fun and helping and talking to people and such. When you become a mod or admin it stops being fun.

Yeah I've been one before. But not on steam.

I didn't like it. Because in hidden threads normal users never saw. Mods would discuss users behind thier backs and stuff all the time.

It felt like working a job, only I wasn't getting paid. It was stressful. And after a while I asked to no longer be a mod.

If I'm working a job, I best be getting paid.


I've been on the internet like 16+ years and got banned a lot of times on chans. I got a range ban on one site after I wiped out an area of the site and they didn't have backups. Got accounts frozen many times on neopets if that counts as bans.

I also got banned from red alert 2 years back because I thought it was hilarious that I could have a user name that when other people said it the server gave them a temp ban.

But these days? Nah, I gave up on chans and trying to start fights n stuff.

I've moderated several forums over the years and was an in-game "Gamemaster" for one game that had a built in ticket system for issues.

Never been a mod before on a fourm. But once made a mod in a fan game someone was working on. I took 3 weeks off and found out all the new mods lost there jobs because the owner did not like that the admins made mods behind there backs.

I got to stay a mod though because I was not there when they all lost there positions.

Also never got banned.

Yes i have been an admin on a vbulletin fourm. Me and my friend started it. No i can't tell you then name for it.

I was moderator on two gaming community forums last year. Both were very small, the first one had only 9 regular users and the second one had about 20-30 regular users. I only had to lock or delete topics a few times because most users followed the rules. I think I only banned 4 users in total.

You couldn't even talk in chat without being bombarded by questions.

It makes me smile when the global mods get called "too strict" because the people saying that are a lot like the type of people I have to deal with.
