Is German What English Sounds Like to Foreigners?
What is your opinion? What would English sound like if you didn't understand it?

Edit: Here's a very good presentation of what English sounds like to foreigners:

Driving around Germany a lot. It's a bloody country-sized construction site.

Munich and Stuttgart are especially bad with congestion.
While in Germany every single time we went on the motorway we got into a traffic jam.

Yeah, it's par for the course at least until the construction projects are done.

Does it sound similar to German?
I'm 39, I grew up in the Netherlands. When I was young we had 3 Dutch TV channels, 5 German and 3 English (and some Belgian and French). English and German didn't sound the same. English sounded nicer.

Now, speaking English and Dutch and a handful of German and French, it's easy to see the common roots of the first three in the West-Germanic languages, and the influence of French having been the lingua franca of diplomacy and science for a long time.

Try driving down to Florida in the US. It starts outside of Atlanta Georgia and you just keep hitting traffic. I have heard it is much worse in California but I have only been there once and my memory of it wasn't actually too bad.

Once you get a ways outside of Chicago at the wrong time of day can be dreadful as well getting to all the suburbs.

I guess it applies to all languages. learning one is hard, and your brain focuses on your first language like it's the basic language

I don't think you understand what I asked. I'll rephrase it: what does English sound like to foreigners? Does it sound similar to German? What is your opinion?

No, it does not.

English would sound diffrent due to it's pronunciations and other aspects unique to the english language.

Other then that, it would share the same quality as any other language in that it sounds like gibberish until you start to identify syllables an meanings, then latter on the words them selves.

Otherwise you are basicaly asking if a dog sounds like a cat.

But in general, English just sounds a lot softer than most languages, that's why every modern country has lots of english/american songs in their charts. Even some local artists prefer to sing in english.
That's more because of the dominant position of the USA, which, together with the many other countries where English is spoken is a huge market for anglophone music to gain popularity within, as well as the international standing of the English language.
French is by many stereotypically seen as one of the most beautiful languages, more so than English, but we don't see many French songs top the charts everywhere.

If English sounded terrible, English songs would probably have a tough time gaining popularity regardless of those factors though. And it does sound pretty charming imo.
