Which is worse for you TV vs Video Games
So this is a topic iv'e been on for a while. So I just built my gaming PC and I am on it a bit more than I usually would. About 1-2 hours on a monday-friday. And about 3-4 hours on Saturday- Sunday every other weekend. Now, my dad always tells me to get off your computer, and when I come to the living room everyone is watching TV or on their Mobile Devices. Now, my argument is why do I have to get off when Im just going to the living room to watch TV and sit on my lazy ass? I mean, at LEAST when I play video games, (games like CSGO, TF2, etc.) I'm using my hands! Is watching TV for three hours straight any worse than playing on PC for three hours straight? What are your thoughts?

If you are talking with your family when watching TV then it is useful for building social skills. Other then that not much of a differents is made when doing one or the other.

TV, definetly. Video Games help with hand-eye coordination and usually people who tend to play Video Games know a lot about computers. And that, my friend, is a good thing. Could get them a really good job if they set their mind to it.
Is this even serius questuin Video Games cant be compared with such a filthy Stupid Word Called T.V

Both are bad for you really; especially if you're watching/playing too much. However, video-games are the lesser evil here, if you were to compare the two.

No, this isn't true at all. Playing video games is just like any other hobby and isn't actually bad for you unless you do too much of it. Like any hobby, it can train many different skills which later can be used to help with jobs, schooling, and many other things.

While watching TV in general is bad for you though, due to not enhancing any types of skills. However, watching shows with family/friends can help with socialization skills or issues. Plus, watching educational stuff can teach you things or shows with actual good stories which can teach you life lessons without you having to live through them yourself.

According to several studies performed by Harvard University in 2014 (Not quite sure about the date), Video Games has been proven to increase reaction times, social skills, vision, teambuilding and it's also a great way to communicate with the world. Watching television on the other hand, is the same as staring into a gray wall for hours - a gray wall that entertains you though.

Risk of getting severel types of abdominal cancer is decrceased a lot if you laugh around 5 minutes a day - both video games and television-watching can make you laugh.

It's all a matter of perspective. Video games are not always good, neither is television. But if the two were to be compared, video games would win.

Why does it matter whats better? Hobbies are only impirtant for fun.

Not if you don't consider it a hobby, I personally hate whats on TV these days except for news channels. But on the other side, if you consider competitive gaming a hobby, you're wrong. I hate it when someone says that. However, it's not a healthy lifestyle. Carpel tunnel and weight gain are some of the factors of this life. However, the upside? Faster reaction times, better skills Everything Anarch says (sorry I have to shorten your name.)

He may also be missing: coping with failure, more pain resistance.
TV is now obsolete for entertainment. I hate to say this to TV lovers, but ads make it worse.

You're stupid to believe this then. Gaming, as a whole, is a hobby. Competitive gaming included is a hobby. It's just, the difference between competitive gaming and normal gaming is the same difference between playing football with your children and being part of an NFL team...

No offense.

Yes, gaming isn't a sport but it's still a hobby. There's a lot of hobbies which aren't sports and these hobbies also have both a competitive and casual side to them. Chess, Pool, and Poker comes to mind. All which are great hobbies to have, if you're into that sort, and all which have both a casual and competitive side to them. Heck, two of those three is just about setting around and using your hands to play a game...

The problem is, which people don't think about, is OVERPLAYING is always a bad thing for ANY hobby, not just video games. Yes, playing video games too much is an unhealthy life style but so is with any other hobby. Actually, even drinking too much water can literally kill you...

What I'm saying is, the biggest "argument" used against gaming is literally use-able against everything, and is a pretty stupid argument to use.

Well I have had a television dropped on my foot and a game cartridge thrown at me and hit me and I would say the television was much worse.

I believe watching too much TV could impair one's mental development and abilities. Games, on the other hand, tend to have the opposite effect according to scientific research.
