Ubisoft expires U points

Maybe because tidying my email account is a dirty word to me im late to the party but it appears Ubisoft expire U points after 2 years.
If like me you didnt know and have brought many a Ubisoft game through steam you may want to check out the email address you registered with as you may well find an email detailing amount to be expired and when.

With Ubisoft having a sale at the moment its well worth cashing them in for a promo code.
100 U points will get you 20% off your next purchase even if the game has already been reduced in the sale.

Example

Far Cry Primal standard edition retails at £41.99 but is on sale 80% off at £8.40. So with the promo code of 20% that means a purchase of £6.72.

Meh. Even if I had enough points that it meant I could get 100 games for a £1 I wouldn't bother. Steam is where I want my library.

If you buy say an assassins creed game through steam, you still have to have a Uplay interface account otherwise you cant play it. Naturally the more Ubisoft titles a steam member buys, the more their ubisoft library grows. As they play the game be it either through steam and uplay at the same time or just uplay, you still make Uplay points.

Now lets say you bought a game through Ubisoft. Like any platform/media, any thing on your PC can be added to your steam library. The only thing that wont happen is steam achievement awards and if applicable steam trading card drops.

So as you can see you have if a steam member purchases a Ubisoft game through steam a Uplay library whether you wanted it or not.

What are the new rules linked to Club Units?
Beginning April 1, 2019, you have 24 months to redeem the Club Units you acquired through your gaming experience or by making eligible purchases on the Ubisoft Store.

After 24 months, these Club Units will expire and will automatically disappear from your Ubisoft Account. Each time you redeem Club Units, the oldest Club Units will be redeemed first.

When does this new rule go into effect?
There is a transition period: you have from now until March 31, 2019 to redeem the Club Units you acquired on or before March 31, 2017.

As an example, if you had 60 Club Units in your account as of March 31, 2017, those are redeemable until March 31, 2019. The Club Units you choose not to redeem will expire on April 1, 2019.

On April 1, 2019, the new rule comes into full effect: on the last day of each month, any unredeemed Units that are more than 2 years old will expire.

You shouldn't have any expire as of yet.

I just wish I could figure out how to USE them. Their system is a disaster area of login-attempts and "that password doesn't work for this part of the website". Maybe they've fixed that, since they first sent that email in the middle of last year, but... I doubt it.

Uplay client. Go to games, click on the game. Under "Play" look for the "Club Rewards" link and that takes you to where you can spend them on in-game content/items.

I tend to only buy the extra content as I don't want any advantages in the game.

You miss my point, I don't care if a game also needs Uplay to run, I still want it part of my Steam library. Adding a non Steam game isn't the same thing.

19 of the 20 games I have in my Uplay library rot there as if they have nothing to do with me, they frankly might as well not exist. The only one that gets played is Anno because it's from Steam.

Shame i missed this as i had to get my head down last night which was actually morning for me.
Anyway when i first put the promo code in it did reject it but when i did it again it accepted it and made the reduction and accepted the order.
Now i will have to come back on this to you but strangely as yet despite the order saying its in my library, it hasnt actually showed up at all yet.
Ive put in a message to customer support so will have to wait but when i do get a reply i will come back to say what happened.

Obviously the PC market isnt as big as it appears anymore as the screws are definitely being tightened while significant platforms take drastic measures to insure their share of the remaining market.
If google pull of there aim it may well the the end as we know it jim.

And you'll still be able to do so. The only thing they're changing is that points collected will now expire after two years, not ending the challenges or rewards.

Also, it's worth noting in Canada, the points you've already accrued prior to April 1, 2019 shouldn't expire. Only ones after. There was a big kerfuffle here about Air Miles rewards expiring and a class action lawsuit or something that changed the Canadian laws about how this sort of thing can be put into action. Canadians should read the "Expiration of Points" bit for Canada that's outlined in the link Spawn posted above.

I think if a person buys a game from anywhere, they shouldnt have to purchase the same game again because of a platform.
This product/service grey area needs serious attention from regulators and overseers of business practices.
