Who the hell "fries" their bread outside of a carnival setting?

Most people like toast because it is easier to make.

Even grilled toast is easier, add cheese and you got a grilled cheese sammich!

Throwing bread in a toaster and buttering it up is so much easier than needing a gallon of oil to heat up to 350degrees in a purpose made deep fryer. One is a bit more involved and time consuming than the other.

Great... Now I want buttered toast.

You mean frying batter? There's usually a large difference from just fried batter and toasted bread. The batter alone requires different ingredients, seasonings and in most cases buttermilk to make that signature deep fried taste.

And if I had to pick I'd go with just toast for breakfast every day, if I treat myself to something deep fried every morning instead I would have heart problems, I'll save the deep fried foods for special days at carnivals and fairs alike.

its any type of bread that you cook in a pan using another substance like oil, butter and that weird diet spray thing.

toast is just cooked bread.

I did think the OP was meaning something entirely different, but if you've ever had a grilled cheese there's a high likelyhood that the Texas toast was fried/grilled with butter to make it.

Honestly, the first thing that came to mind when hearing fried bread was Guy Fieri dipping a slice of bread in a deep fryer.
