There's many free virus scanning browser services. One even crosschecks with every known antivirus software.
But if you've got children or elderly using the computer or device. I would recommend always keeping a virus protection on it, mostly a paid service. Free is flawed and they all collect something off of you for the loss of giving their service out for free.
I haven't used one for the past 15 years and haven't been infected with anything.
I occasionally download some of the freebies to do scans if I notice something fishy going on with my performance or services and nothing has ever come up, lol.
Now, some of my data has been leaked due to breaches on other websites...
LOL Windows spys on you too, windows 10 specifically. It is one of the main reasons so many people are refusing to leave windows 7, as windows 7 still gives you control over what updates to install if any at all.
Windows 7 is the last of the big "User Friendly" operating systems.
"We're sorry we got caught."
"We are sorry for hurting your feelings."
They dont care at all.
Windows Defender, is all you need anymore...
If you have Windows 10, you may want Pro Edition...
It comes with Application Guard for Windows Defender,
& it works better then any Anti-Virus out there...
So far that I know of, however, with Edge going Chromium,
I don't know what this means for Application Guard...
Application Guard traps Viruses into a Virtual Environment, when you close it,
all viruses are gone instantly... & they never touch your System...
When you got something like that, what do you need a 3rd Party
Anti-Virus for?
Application Guard is part of Pro Edition, I dunno if it's on
Regular Windows 10 though... Because of Changes...
You can argue that Chromium is better then Edge, because it's open source,
but Open Source, or not, it's still run by Google, & I want to stay away from
Google as much as possible...
