Leaked documents show how popular antivirus Avast & AVG harvests internet browsing data and sells it for millions of dollars.

avast sucks anyways

at least from my past experiences, and from what my friend regularly complains to me

Ouch, selling you a software so they can access your online information.i use windows antivirus anyway.
All I see is bad news about Avast I was looking for a good reason to uninstall.

I'm pretty sure they don't do this in the registered version. Since a lot of people don't register it.
Who knows.
If people followed you on shopping trips to the library and local store and wrote it down in permanent files and sold it they would go to jail, why are they allowed to do that on internet
NOTHING you do online is private... Even with VPNs.

We live in an age where the data about a person is worth more than the person themselves.

Nope.

NOTHING you do online is private.

Someone, somewhere, ALWAYS knows what you are doing or can easily search what you are doing, have done, or even what you MIGHT do.

firefox have a flaw that some extension will install itself without user's prompt
not sure if it's fixed now or not
Uninstall Avast right now!

Nothing more to say. And really not surprising. Avast has always been shady.
Everything sells your browsing data.

Your grandma sells your browsing data.

Google does that too. Like most other search engines.
EVERYONE DOES THIS!
I like how it monitors your adult website searches in more details to ensure you get the best advertisers in "Enlargement pills" and "condoms".

Perhaps they are sponsored by "Trojan"?

Seriously though: It's an opt-in web-browser and/or browser extension. You could just say no to that during the installation of the anti-virus software or remove/disable that component afterwards. It's not the anti-virus app itself. It's separated at least.

You didnt read the article did you?

"Jumpshot's data could show how someone with Avast antivirus installed on their computer searched for a product on Google, clicked on a link that went to Amazon, and then maybe added an item to their cart on a different website, before finally buying a product, the source who provided the documents explained."
