Most of their games can be standalone downloads. I have a bunch, mostly old games like the "Might and Magic" and "Master of Olympus" series. They've been trying to compete with Steam with newer and newer games but if you already have Steam I don't see why you wouldn't just get them on Steam.
I doubt you will find many newer games that GoG has that Steam does not. IMO, GoG is pretty much only for older titles. Just depends on tastes, I guess.
tried to play patrician 4 on steam, it forced me to input an email to play even though i owned it
so I blocked it with windows firewall and luckily could play without the second drm they tried to force
tried to play alice madness returns - its demanding an email even though i own it on steam, tried blocking with firewall didnt work. so now im stuck
gog would just let you download it anywhere and you could install to your laptop without a a steam client or anything, just the game
I don't use Galaxy myself, I like being able to download the install file and run without an interface like steam.
I don't think anyone can convice me galaxy isn't drm. As I understand it makes sure you own said game to access multiplayer servers. And missing an important fuction like that for your games counts as a drm for me.
No, I agree with you.
I do think Galaxy is DRM, But people can still play without it.
Alright, then I'll consider it. Maybe I'll find more titles. I just don't want to be under the position that someday a game that I might own on GoG would end up on Steam eventually.
Total Annihilation apparantly is easier to mod from GoG, Doom 1 & 2 run better as well.
So yeah, I agree.
I disagree about DRM free. It isn't a seperate program, but there are games that will not fully work with out the launcher.
For example: The 8 bit series of games (8bit Armies, ect). If you do not use the launcher, then you can not play over internet or even your local network. I can understand internet, but making it so the local network can't use it as well, is why it is a form of DRM.
Agreed, but not just Galaxy. If the direct download lacks at least LAN play, then it is still DRM, in my personal opinion.
It may not use an invasive means, but it is the removal a functional part of the game in order to force the use of the client to confirm you own the game to use all it's functions.
GOG is a good place for older games or newr games, if you want a stand alone program. They also offer GOG Connect where you can get some game on GOG that you own on Steam as well, so that is nice to have a second copy available.
Like with Origin since I got both Medal of Honor 2010 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on Steam and Origin?
Basically GoG is like as if one were, like in the past, to purchase physical copy of video games at the time that didn't have DRMs and you would play on the spot.
