Information about Madou Monogatari?
Okay, so I'm going to try to explain all of this until I actually start with the question. Many of you might know about a video game series called "Puyo Puyo". For those of you who don't know, Puyo Puyo is a popular Japanese puzzle game similar to Tetris and Dr. Mario. But most people don't know that Puyo Puyo is actually a spin off to another franchise called "魔導物語" or Madou Monogatari. Unlike Puyo Puyo, Madou Monogatari is an obscure dark dungeon crawler made by "Compile" (which were the same people who made Puyo Puyo), Most of the characters would later be reused in the Puyo Puyo series (such as Arle), while a couple of the characters (such as Campus) wouldn't be used again (except for that one issue of Disc Station that had Campus). I would like to find more information about this game (such as longplays, ROMs, trivia, ect) which you can type or link in the comments.

Madou Monogatari is basically an easier version of Wizardly or Megami Tensei (some sequels apply 2D top-down view like Final Fantasy). Almost all characters and references in Puyo Puyo series are from this one. The biggest feature is the "fuzzy" parameter, describing every state in fighting WITHOUT mentioning number such as HPs and MPs, but with sentences.
Behind all the happy and somewhat cheerful atmosphere it gives off, Madou Monogatari is...a lot darker than Puyo Puyo. This kind of stuff fell under the category of "back then there were no rules to mature content". Although I'm not sure if this relates to the other versions of this game, the "PC-98" version of the games definitely wasn't made for little kids to play. Specifically, Schezo and Mini Zombie. If you're curious, here's the video of a fight against Schezo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVPacuOEfn0
and as for Mini Zombie...just Google Image "madou monogatari mini zombie". Just, again, these are gruesome.
So many different versions of Madou!
I actually just discovered Madou recently, I'm trying to find a way to emulate the PC 98 version but is there a translation out for it? Also the game seems to be pretty rare in general, I can't find it anywhere!
Alright y'all I have some info after some research.

The original game "Madou Monogatari 1-2-3" on MSX was only partially translated.

The PC-98 version contained some different plot points and is considered the "darker" port with more realistic violence and blood etc. This version is not translated whatsoever right now.

They eventually made remakes that have different gameplay and story elements on Sega Game Gear that split the "chapters" into seperate parts. These games are currently fully translated by fans.

They eventually remade the Game Gear version of the first part only, for Sega Genesis. This version is basically a "higher res" version of it's Game Gear counterpart with some added spells and characters. This game got a fan translation last month.
(trivia: this was officially the last Genesis/Mega Drive game to be released in Japan)

As far as I know, the PC Engine version is supposed to have a mixture of elements from both the Genesis port and the original computer game versions. This version is not translated right now.

Each version of the original game (MM 1-2-3) are supposed to be quite different experiences so it's a shame that all of them aren't translated yet. The team that worked on the Sega GG and Genesis ports decided to take a break from the series as well so I wouldn't wait on them to translate the computer games or the PC Engine port.

I suggest you to edit the last part of your post because I'm sure it is not a very good thing to talk about this kind of stuff in a place like this...
The second game in the series is called Madou Monogatari A-R-S, and it takes place before the events of 1-2-3. The original PC-98 game is not translated to my knowledge. And only the first part of this game (Madou Monogatari A) was ported to Sega Game Gear, this version is fully translated by the same team who did the first games.

The next game is an SNES game (Madou Monogatari: Hanamaru Dai Youchienji) which was fully translated by another team before the Sega games were even translated.

The next is the last official game produced by Compile, simply Madou Monogatari for Sega Saturn. This game is not translated right now.

From what I saw there was another game that came out in 2005 but I can't find any info on it at all.

And finally the latest game is a reboot of sorts that is out on PS Vita and Steam, this is the first and currently the only game to have an official english release. This game is titled "Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God" (Sorcery Saga=Madou Monogatari in english). It's loosely based on the MM 1 plot and is a rogue-like rpg from what I saw. They had to use a new cast since the original characters are owned by Sega after Compile went bankrupt.

Good thinking friend, I got carried away since I saw OP asking for that info.
