Why do people always tell you to use Google for questions?

Why do people always tell you to use Google for questions about games instead of asking on a forum? Do people really not understand that if no one answers a question asked on a forum then the answer will never appear on Google. Answers don't just appear on Google, someone has to answer them in the first place for it to appear in the search results.

If everyone only tells people to search on Google instead of asking on a forum, then the only answers they will ever get on Google are people telling them to search on Google instead.

I think it is mostly seen as lazy. If it is a frequently asked question with a simple answer, why should they take time out of their day to read your question, when typing the same question into Google will get you the same answer almost instantly.

Actually you have a valid point, but it's not really going to mean anything in the long run.

At the end of the day, unless you're the very FIRST person to have a particular issue, EVER, then somebody before you has asked that question and got an answer. Search Engines (and Google is by far not the only one, just the best is all) will then index that question and answer.

Given the strong odds that you are NOT the first person, the thing to do is search the Internet FIRST, and only ask the question if that fails to turn up workable results.

So, if you DID search first, always explain in your question that you've already searched and turned up bupkis. Or, explain how the answers you found don't apply to your situation. Or (and this has happend to me numerous times), explain how you found a lot of forums where the question was asked, but so far nobody has posted an answer. (I see a lot of "me too!" questions, but sometimes, no answers)

Basically what people are really trying to do is avoid spoon-feeding answers to every lazy bum who doesn't want to do their own research. Demonstrate to the forum that you are not one of those lazy bums, and people will be much more willing to put in the effort to answer your question.

I search first and if I can't get the answer, I ask. 99.99% I can get the answers from a search engine.

Because some question are so easy to find on various search engine, its not worth the time to invest in either huge arguments or wait for a decent answer when some one does.

Depends on the question, but the ones that usually get that answer are usually something you can find the answer to within 10 seconds of googling it.

If it’s a less common question, then it’ll get proper answers.

I remember a few years ago I searched up a question on Google. I found a lot of results, but most of them were literally filled "me too I'd like to know as well" and "just Google it".
