I almost hit 4 women and a kid with my car now I feel guilty and I'm having anxiety problems. How do I let it go
So a couple of minutes ago I was driving near my house coming back from a supermarket. It was 10:30 pm so in my mind people must be sleeping in their homes so I didn't pay attention to the road. I wasn't texting or using my phone at all. I guess you can say I was daydreaming so while I was turning my car to the right where my house is I saw 4 women and a baby with them. They were scared and immediatly turn right to avoid me and I quickly hit the brakes to stop it they all looked at me and I told the sorry but they just kept going and so I feel REALLY guilty like I should've payed attention but as soon as I arrived home I saw I sidewalk and immediatly thought "why didn't they use the sidewalk?" They were walking on the road so maybe the problem isn't all my fault but still feel really bad. How do I let it go?

Always pay attention on the streets man, there's never a safe time to drive distracted.
Glad that nothing bad happened, but don't feel bad dude, it's not your fault at all, they should've used the sidewalk that it's meanted to be used to cross the streets, if I were you that after the nerves of nearly hitting then, and then they go like if nothing happened after telling them if they're allright, I would actually get angry rather than guilty.

You know op could have ran a stop sign and he's just trying to victimize himself.
Everyone victimizes him/herself, if you actually express it is however different

Dude, even when daydreaming a bit you don't forget where the stop signals are in your place, it's not like you don't know where you are.
But going back to the important, OP must pay more attention in the streets, just that.

You ALMOST hit them, means you DIDN'T HIT THEM.

LOL

Feel guilty when you actually run someone over.

As for daydreaming... Yeah time to sell your car and start taking the bus, or get one of those self driving cars that will kill you instead of the people outside it. No one should drive distracted, EVER.

The irony of your post is delicious. But, I agree - being (almost) asleep at the wheel isn't good.

Dogs shouldn't drive in the first place. You belong to a bunch of hipsters living in a van.

And stupid things shouldn't be said.

Easily. You felt bad about the near-accident, and that makes you a good person. A bad person wouldn't have been concerned.

You are, however, a terrible driver and should be ashamed of that.

you should have been paying attention, not just for their sake, but becasue the world is full of terrible drivers and stupid people.

I can't tell you the number of times I have been cut off, or people have charged lanes in front of me without using a turn signal, or the number of people that have tried to speed past me in a lane that is about to merge into mine, point is pay attention at all times while driving.

Humans shouldn't be driving anyway. You should be glad everyday you come home without having killed a bunch of people on the way.

Bring on autopilot, i say.
The average self-driving car currently causes more issues than human-controlled ones, they are far from fully computerised

How about nobody died and he should be happy about it. That works too.
Both parties was at fault, heres why.

As a driver you have to be aware of all your surroundings. You as a driver has to expect that people are out all hours of the day and night. Also when you make a turn down a street you have to expect that some one might be crossing at any given time. But your concentration was somewhere else and you wasn't paying attention. They could of been walking across the street but you perceived it as them walking in the street.

As a pedestrian you also have to be aware also. You have to expect a car is coming at anytime when you are near a road. They could of been trying to walk on the side of the road as cars being parked there prevented walking close to the curb as the sidewalk could of been unsafe. They also could of been trying to cross the road and almost half away across you come around the corner and like you said wasn't paying attention had to swerved around them. Now they very well could of been walking in the street and that is there fault. But an aware driver would see this and slow down or stop.

But from the way i see it, it would be the drivers fault more, as it is common sense to think people are out at night also. Not as many as during the day. Also you admitted to day dreaming and basically not paying attention. In a court of law, you would be found guilty if that was brought up. Of course they would also be found guilty if it was found out that they was walking in the middle of the street for no good reason.

But you didn't kill no one so just brush it off. And be more aware when you are driving.
