I do it some years because my relatives can take a week or longer to work a birthday into their schedule

Last time it was an oreo ice cream cake, before that a chocolate ice cream cake.

Then when the party hits they give a giant regular cake I need to throw half of it away.

I did it because I was stationed away from home and didn’t have guys around that I could really celebrate with at the time.

Now I’m hungry for cake

Thankfully not yet. I have baked my own birthday cake a few times, though. Usually because I wanted to try something crazy or radical and the recipe was within my own head.

Why buy a cake at all? Baking one takes about as long as driving to the store and back, and tastes infinitely better. Store-bought icing is horrible, once you go homebake you never go back.

And yeah I know, the ice cream cakes I've bought thus far have been pretty bad.
