Why do People take the PCMR thing so seriously?

Like I don't understand it like it's nothing but a meme and the majority of PC gamers are not those Elitist people.

Then people started using it as a badge of social pride.

Then people started unironically using the label while lording their platform preference over others.

It's all boasting/posturing in my book, because it started out as people stating "Yeah I play PC, which I think is better than console" basically a few individuals stating that they prefer PC over console, now it's "Anyone who doesn't play on PC, sucks, and are console peasants, PC's RULE!!"

Plus since the average price of a new console is $400 vs. $700-$800 for a decent gaming PC, the fact that someone would have a console and not a PC, was taken to mean they couldn't afford a PC.

Same idea as the whole "Potato" thing when people refer to a outdated under powered PC, although with that people tend to get into pising contests, whereas PC Master Race is more of a title, one that people use too much. It used to be a trigger, but for the most part I think it's lost it's effect.


Personally most of my friends many of whom have been PC gamers for much of their lives, also have consoles and many also got started with consoles (myself included), especially for games that aren't on PC, I myself still have and play Xbox 360, and my PS2 for much the same reason.

If you check out the PC Master Race videos, they too also joke around with the concept. Even go as far as ironically PC Master Race (last year builds) vs PC Master Race (next year builds).

The majority of PC gamers in my experience have always been elitists, just like many console gamers were. In the past both PC and consoles had their own advantages so being elitists made less sense, but today consoles are just an anti consumer mess without any valid reason or justification other than their producers being greedy control freaks, and simple common sense strongly validates the whole PCMR thing now.

I don’t hate people for playing on other platforms. There are a lot of games that I enjoy playing on Xbox, PS4, and Nintendo. But what gets on my nerves is when people say that those platforms are “stronger” than PC. That’s what gets me.

When it comes to specs, PC kills consoles. If anyone says otherwise then you’re an idiot.

I've been a PC purist for well over two decades, nearly three decades now. I've always considered a console a waste of time and effort to get so long as they can't be customised in hardware.

thing is that consoles have a set life of about 6 years before they end up locked up in a storage space covered in dust and cobwebs, while the next generation of console comes and does the same thing, it isn't practical.

PC's can continue to be upgraded and old components can always remain useful, even gifting what was a good PC ten years ago can help the less fortunate experience the PC, and it would be more than enough to power through a lot of games for less well off kids to enjoy something nice.

So the PC is just an all round better tool in the long term.
