Worst early access game you ever bought?
or worst game you've ever bought, if you never bought an early access game.

For me, it will always be StarForge and it has forever tainted my view on early access games. So many unkept promises. Its understandable that a game can change during development, but StarForge changed so much from the original trailer and first version that it wasn't even close to the same game anymore. It started as something like a cross between Minecraft (crafting/building), Borderlands (procedural weapon generation) and Halo (aesthetics/game modes). When it was finished, it was a buggy mess that had barebones crafting, no procedural weapon generation and only one mode.

The worst part is that it was actually not that bad of a game when it was first released into early access. It was buggy, but in a "is this a bug or a feature??" kind of way. Like, I once had a bug that turned the entire environment into a wasteland! All the trees looked burned and the sky had turned into a yellowish color, similar to something out of Fallout. It was super cool! It was also way less buggy than when it was released and the game modes were fun. *sigh* so much potential.

Oh yeah, that one was pretty bad. I managed to avoid it somehow.
Verdun, but not for its time in early access, since that's when the game was actually at its best. The devs massively changed the game post-release, and it's still a buggy, poorly-optimized mess, even moreso than when it was in early access.
7 Days to Die is a top contender.

What happened with it? I stopped playing it when I realized that it was just Minecraft with zombies. It was fun at first, but I kept waiting for the devs to release NPCs and they kept saying they'd do so in the next update, but then kept putting it off with each new update until I got tired of paying attention to the game.

Nothing really, its still a lot of fun at least IMO and in a lot of other people's opinions as per the VERY good reviews. Some just wanted some content to be prioritized and dev's decided rather then releasing broken stuff they should actually get some of the framework finalized so they don't waste a year+ of time fixing bugs constantly.

Did they ever add NPCs? Because originally they were supposed to be added with Version 17.
Never bought EA game (except maybe once or twice by mistake), not really interested in buying games until they are complete (which normally now means waiting until DLC dries up, let alone buying before the base game is finished). I prefer to play games once rather than come back to them piecemeal as stuff gets added - this also applies to episodic games where I will tend to wait until all the episodes are done before picking them up.

In terms of worst games I remember picking up a budget 3 WWII themed games for £5 pack around 2000-2005ish, one where you were a tank commander, one as infantry, the last one I think was in a Jeep in the North African desert. They all sucked and were barely playable, but the worst was the Tank one as you endlessly got stuck on scenery - even small bushes would block your way.

Yes/No, a lot of the code is in the game for them and you can turn them on, but they aren't officially supported yet. They did do alot of updates in A17 that were designed for them such as animations, dialog, quests frame work, etc.
I also had StarForge. It was really fun, and I liked where it was going. Great to mess around with some friends.

Then *poof* development ceased.

I really wish they would open source it and let some fans continue working on it

You and me both brother.

Do you still have that picture of the bicycle? That was the best thing in the entire game was a screenshot from you.

I hate you dead linger. You stare at me from my game files. If you were a person and not a game I would beat you to death with a nine iron. I don't care that you're a game I might still try
