I actually learned about this reference years after watching the movie...

In the polish version of Shrek this scene referenced a old cartoon named "Bajki z mchu i paproci" and was turned into a gay joke...

The two male characters from this cartoon were named Grit and Toadstool.

It goes like this:

Gingy: "Alright, have you heard about Toadstool?"

Lord Farquaad: "Toadstool?"

Gingy: "Yes, Toadstool."

Lord Farquaad: "Yes, I know Toadstool. The one with Grit, yes?"

Gingy: "Yes, Grit is "trying stuff" with Toadstool."

Lord Farquaad: "With Toadstool?"

Gingy: "YES! WITH TOADSTOOL!!!"

Lord Farquaad: "Grit is "trying stuff" with Toadstool...?"

This is an amateur translation so please don't kill me ;)
