Instagram vs Reality
What is this obsession with being unnatural nowadays? Have you ever meet someone that was different from their online photos and how did you respond?

We live in a world of self consciousness, inferiority complexes and the need to inflate so its hardly surprising most suffer the Barbie and Ken syndrome.

I think you fell victim to the same thing when you used profile pictures of yourself, op. Especially the one where the base of your ♥♥♥♥ was showing.

Never had Photoshop on my computer before and I don't touch steroids, I train six days a week.

I am referring to people that have Botox, surgery or even go on steroids and change physique with Photoshop for Instagram likes.

Oh you know. Everything for 15min of fame. The Western dream. To be adored and revered, even if you need to lose yourself to do it.

Yep. Overpopulation is a problem.

Not. I simply mind my own business.

It seems you are the one obsessing over this; Sending video's and names of people I don't even know to me, and all that. Like, are you serious?! Leave this girl alone.

To varying degrees, people want others to think they're successful, attractive, happy, and so on.
Social media such as Instagram just offers a form of expression through which people can represent a real or unreal representation of their "best self."

I should start a trend of "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥". Not to be like "Oh do ho hoo stupid me, leave a like and comment if you wanna see me ♥♥♥♥ up again";: but more "Look, I'm human, just like you. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up today. You likely did too at some point. That's fine. Stop being so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jittery about it".

Eh. As long as they're happy. Plus, I'm sure some of those people make quite a bit of money for being models. If I had those Photoshop skills, I'd totally try, because I would love to have even a fraction of what they make (for doing practically nothing but model). :2016imnotcrying:

Indeed, printed media always did that. It's just that with social media your average Jane or Joe can be the same as the models in the printed media of yore.

Humans seeking perfectionism will only have a harder drop off when they reach their midlife crisis, I feel sorry for them really. When all these people reach their 60s & 70s, how many of them will regret spending so much of their life pretending to be something that they are not?

I do not truly believe that people living a fake persona on social media are having fun. They are trying to cover up the reality of their life. It's sad. Makeup is only a byproduct of this mindset that social media addicts have

I know someone who does this "public persona" thing. Very successfully. Charming, charismatic, life of the party.

But I have caught a glimpse of when he thought nobody's looking, He was not feeling well, to say the least.

I think a lot of young females, more women than men, are addicted to social media like Instagram, because they get acknowledgment which they do not get in real life. A lot of them make unnaturel pictures to get this acknowledgment.

Do you believe it gives them a sense of ego?

Jessy Taylor is a prime example.
