A stereo is literally 2 or more speakers playing stereophonic sound.
Home theater/stereo setups are more popular than ever, its one of the many reasons people don't go to actual movie theaters any more. Why when someone can have a 7.1 THX system and HD projector in one room and a 5.1 sound system with a 72 inch 4k TV in another.
And plenty of places still do custom and aftermarket automotive audio as well.
I'm pretty sure a simple internet search in your area would show you all kinds of options, unless you are out in the middle of nowhere.
Unless you are talking about listening to FM radio on an old school boombox?
If I had the resources I'd actually try and get an 80's/early 90's Hi-Fi set. I'm a sucker for brushed aluminum audio devices with VU meters.
