Is skyrim special edition worth it?
I'm thinking about getting it on console because my pc cant really handle it but Ive played a lot of skyrim in the past and im scared that the mods and new visuals dont really change anything. Does the special edtiion actually make enough of a difference in gameplay that ill want to play the game again?

The Special Edition makes no difference in game play.. it's only graphic/visual enhancements.. as far as i know.. anyways..

No its totally a waste of money. Nothing is different btw the normal one

Not entirely true. While the game is identical from a gameplay view and mostly identical in terms of graphics, it's very different in technical aspects.
For starters, instead of a 32Bit version, the Special Edition runs on 64Bit, which allows it to utilize more RAM and by using a newer version of the game engine it runs faster and more stable.

The 64Bit version also allows bigger mods due to less memory related constraints.

If you are only looking for gameplay, the Special Edition has nothing to offer over the standard version.

Unless you've
A) Never played or owned Skyrim.
or
B) Got it while it was free, such as myself.
It is NOT worth it.

nooooo! its unplayable for me from the lag, and normal skyrim looks better! like i saw comparison video and special just is more blurry! and it run better with mod anyway

It is an improvement, graphically and performance wise, vs Vanilla Skyrim.

If you have Skyrim already and use mods, it may not be worth it, unless you are having performance issues (64bit runs a lot smoother for me).

There is a lack of mods for the SE version, but that is changing every day.

If you are getting the console version, then it is better to get the Special Edition as you can download an use mods with it.

With 64 bit, there is a lot more modders can do with it as well.

In the end, it is a matter of opinion and prefrence. Something you will have to decide for yourself.

Personaly, I like the SE version better.

It's only $30 at Gamestop and on Amazon right now. I like the SE more. But I haven't played on console. PC would look a bit better than console on the right computer, but I believe it's still very solid on consoles. Plus, as others have said, there are mods available, and that's always a plus. I also think the SE on console completely surpasses the original Skyrim on PC, even with ultra settings. If you want a more beautiful, smoother, and better running game, go for it. It doesn't change gameplay.

Skyrim special edition is mostly worth it if you buy it for console. On pc the difference is like Totoro said.

Graphically improved and more stable. Its more optimized because of 64bit using more memory for the game. On 32bit version you could have an amazing gaming rig, but having more than 60fps would break the game engine and bugs would occur.

Last time I played there weren't so many mods but mod authors have did a good job and there's a lot more mods. But nowhere near as many as standard edition.

Elder scrolls is very much a fanbased thing so the very fact you have to ask the question makes me think you shouldnt bother Ronin. I dont mean that in a bad way, just that perhaps you would be happier trying out a new game instead.

From the OP's post:

"but Ive played a lot of skyrim in the past"

So he knows what the game is like.

I've been playing the SE and gotta say, even on medium quality, as I don't have a super sweet rig, it does look a lot nicer (although the god-rays are a bit much at times) and oh boy are the load screens faster. I really would not prefer to go back to the 32-bit version now. But it's still Skyrim. No new content.

I hear you Spawn Of Totoro but putting a 1000 hours or 2 just into skyrim does not make a person an elders scroll fan. Morrowind and Oblivion are masterful games many many people still play a decade or more on to this very day with the inclusion of skyrim which is what i regard as a fan of elder scrolls.

Buying past games doens't make you a fan either, along with the time played.

If he enjoyed the game and is thinking of buying a console copy, thent the Special Edition is the better value due to mod support. Evidently he already played Skyrim and knows he enjoys it.

We don't know if he own those games either as they were available before Steam, so he may own other copies. I know I have a physical copy of Morrowind in a drawer and my first copy of Oblivion was on the PS3.

Being a fan of a series, or not, has nothing to do with such a decision. He also already owns it on Steam, but as he said, his computer can't seem to handle it.

A huge amount of mods will not be ported to the 64_bit Skyrim SE engine. So you'll miss out on some awesome stuff like Enderal. As for the claimed better stability of the 64_bit engine as a reason to go for Skyrim SE I play Skyrim modded with the 'The Journey' - a compilation of 500+
mods(~27GB size zipped 46GB installed) - and the 32_bit version crashed once in over 30 hrs while playing in 4K resolution ENB enabled all graphics options maxed out.
