Is skyrim special edition worth it?
I'm thinking about getting it on console because my pc cant really handle it but Ive played a lot of skyrim in the past and im scared that the mods and new visuals dont really change anything. Does the special edtiion actually make enough of a difference in gameplay that ill want to play the game again?

I think i worded my question wrong...I played skyrim a few times originally with no mods multiple times but I was wondering if adding this mod support would make it more worth it to play. And by gameplay i meant do the upgraged visuals and faster loading make a significant difference in how you see the game?

You can. There are many mods already available for the Special Edition. I have 10 currently as I am a minimalist with my mods. There are over 20k of them on the Beathsda site as well.

A huge amount of mods will not be ported to the 64_bit Skyrim SE engine. So you'll miss out on some awesome stuff like Enderal. As for the claimed better stability of the 64_bit engine as a reason to go for Skyrim SE I play Skyrim modded with the 'The Journey' - a compilation of 500+
mods(~27GB size zipped 46GB installed) - and the 32_bit version crashed once in over 30 hrs while playing in 4K resolution ENB enabled all graphics options maxed out.

Not all mods will, no. But many of the popular ones will. They are waiting on the script extender for the 64bit version though and that will take time.

The 32 bit, with few mods, kept crashing on me and had a lag every now and then when moving. The 64 bit fixed both those and I have not had a single crash.

Both these with light mods. (about 10 or so)

SE adds no additional content. If you play on console the (limited) mod support and better visuals may be worth it .On PC you don't get much which wasn't available already for years.

No. Many are the same modes from the 32bit. After the SDK for 64bit was released, a lot started to port them or ask the original mod makers for permission to port them. Some worked even with out being ported.

Even the Nexus has a section for SE mods and you can use the NMM as well. LOOT also works on the 64 bit.

If you have a new widescreen wall filling TV for the polished version you could afford it if you are a great fan, otherwise I wouldnt buy it again because it is a very lousy way to earn money by the developers, but thats just my personal opinion, make your own, cheers

I hear you Spawn Of Totoro but putting a 1000 hours or 2 just into skyrim does not make a person an elders scroll fan. Morrowind and Oblivion are masterful games many many people still play a decade or more on to this very day with the inclusion of skyrim which is what i regard as a fan of elder scrolls.

Buying past games doens't make you a fan either, along with the time played.

If he enjoyed the game and is thinking of buying a console copy, thent the Special Edition is the better value due to mod support. Evidently he already played Skyrim and knows he enjoys it.

We don't know if he own those games either as they were available before Steam, so he may own other copies. I know I have a physical copy of Morrowind in a drawer and my first copy of Oblivion was on the PS3.

Being a fan of a series, or not, has nothing to do with such a decision. He also already owns it on Steam, but as he said, his computer can't seem to handle it.

Not sure where buying past games comes into it ?

Anyway like you, well probably worse, i have every computer and console i ever owned since 1981. This includes the 100s to 1000s of hard copy games to go with them so i think i know a elders scroll fan when i see one as i have lived and gamed the entire gaming era personally since the ZX81 onwards and the 56k phone line onwards. Hell i even played pong on a big ass arcade machine before that.

Moddings fun, i wont deny that but its not original content so shouldnt be the basis for whether or not a person likes a game or not. Its the same with all this sycophant graphics crap which only proves people have lost the ability to use there imagination and probably the reason why people dont read so much anymore as we can give them pretty pictures in remedial fashion.

That seems to be dependent on ones system. Some have had no issues, some have.

As the OP was asking about the console version, it should be the same across the board.
