Do you think giving away a gift is rude?
I was arguing with my mom today and she believes that giving a gift away is fine. I told her a gift is meant for appreciation, the person gave you a gift to appreciate you and if you are just going to give it away then you do not have mutual appreciation.

What are your guy's thought on it?

My mom doesn't ask, she literally would just give it away behind their back

You mean you receive a gift, which you return to, say, the store it was bought from?
Yes, that would be rude, I feel.

It is rude, no matter how rubbish the gift is, the person thought of you as they got it for you, if you seriously do not want it, at least get permission to get rid of it, nothing more horrible then finding out that your gifts were flogged and ment nothing.

it would still be rude to ask permission to return it/give it away...
My heart would get broken. :(

exactly if someone didn't want a gift, they could've told them ahead of time.

Depends of the gift
If it's something like hard to get or 1 of the kind then yes
If not it's fine
I once got an expenssive pen in christmas and had no idea to do with that soo I gave it to someone else

Is it alright to sell the engagement ring you got me?
If it the person who gave you the gift has no way of knowing that you gave it away, then it's fine. It doesn't make sense to me why people feel compelled to take ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gifts.

Maybe people should stop giving substandard gifts your mother doesn't want. If it comes from the heart, something meaningful, then I doubt your mother will re-gift it. But, if it is something she has no use for, doesn't like, or it is just plain poor gift material, hell yeah. Give it away. Throw it in a donation box. Chuck it in the bin. And then tell all these people to stop buying gifts.
