What if the AAA games industry resorted to Asset Flipping.
So, what if the AAA gaming industry one day decided that they were making enough money from premium games sold at a $60 price point, inserting LootBox systems and/or other microtransactions, content cut out in order to be sold as DLC, offering season passes, relishing in Pre-Order culture, spamming product placement, and doing it all while pleading "Poverty". Ot if one day, in addition to all of that, they decide to have all subsequent games cobbled together from pre-bought, pre-baked, assets from the Unity Asset Store, akin to "developers" such as DigiHom?

If there's a market for it, there's a market for it. Even if we'd rather there not be a market for it.

Capitalism, ho!

They already do: Deep Silver has sold the same f♥cking game with different titles, what five times now? The FIFA games can probably be consider flips too.

They won't because it would ruin their copyrights, and they LOVE copyrights.

Well, they can't invent new players and venues for every season, because that's not how football runs...

That's exactly my point: it's still the same Teams, Stadiums, same everything. They just +1 to the year on the box and sell it as a new game.

edit: As opposed to waiting a couple years for the Teams to have significant Roster changes, or maybe even some New Features to the game itself.

I mean it does already happen, but if it happened big time the Jimquisition would have to begin a new crusade against AAA developers.:AOEKnight:

Reusing stuff you actually own is not the same as flipping.

Isn't it though? I doubt the same graphic designers worked on the same graphics. Same for programers and level designers. They all user something someone else had made.

Many use the same game engine and that is made by another company and purchased as well. It isn't just visuals that can be considered and asset flip. Besides, the entire industry is centered around one, single thing: to take assets and make money off of them. Self made or not, they are still flipping the assets in order to make a profit.

O'h, and lets not forget how many assets were flipped from devloper to devloper when making Duke Nuker Forever.

Also, even think about how many toilets look the same in most games? Even AAA ones? I bet there is a standard model that many developers use. Afterall, who wants to pay a designer and programer to make a toilet in a game.

The difference is mostly intent and quality. Why would you not reuse things that people aren't going to notice? Why remake something that is going to look the same anyway?

Reuse is smart. Flipping is seedy. If you have to depend on assets to make a game good then your game is not good to begin with.
