Couldnt find a translation that seems legit.

In Danish we have the word "pålæg" which describes all food you can put on bread, im wondering what this is in English.

Ah ok. We don't have a word for that. We just say whatever the thing is.

Some may call it an edible recursion

Others may call it an edible grommet permeation

The more feeble-minded call it a sandwich.

A bread topping?

This is probably the closest we're gonna get.

There is no word that specifically refers to food items on bread in particular. As others have noted, "topping" is perhaps the most succinct match, although it refers to any food item put on any other food item.

Actually, the closest thing would be a filling, or a filler.

Some times you put something on just one piece of bread though.

Absolutely not. Gentle OP requests a word which might refer to a food item one puts on bread in particular. "Filler" refers to no such thing, specifically or generally. It carries a completely different connotation from even something that is simply put on another thing.

As of today, such a word does not consist yet in any approved english dictionary.
We got the same word in Dutch tho: 'beleg'
