Is Uplay safe to use?
Hello, I work at Electronic Arts and usually we are allowed to play games at work and there is no policy against platforms like Steam, GoG Galaxy etc. Yesterday i installed Rainbow Six Siege via Steam on my work PC to play it, the odd thing was that uplay wasn't even connecting to the network. I asked a co-worker and he said UPlay access was disabled and banned because it can access your personal information, personal files and its a security risk for the company. My question is, what exactly does it do? Should i be worried if i have it installed on my personal pc and work laptop since i have sensitive data stored?

I would say so. It is incredibly annoying though.

It shouldn't do anything at all. Also I feel REALLY bad for you, that your working at a company like electronic arts.

of course uplay is safe. it's ubisoft's manager jut like origin is ea's, battle.net is blizzard's, steam is valve's, etc.

I don't believe a word you said. All I see is an Off-Topic regular wanting to create a thread.

Uplay does not access your personal info on your PC.

most likely because it uses in the UPnP
Such a shame, was curious how the game feels with more than 35-40 fps

Makes absolute no relevance what you just said.

I actually found this https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/07/30/psa-possible-security-risk-in-some-ubisoft-pc-games/ i guess this is the main reason, so no R6 or The Division for me.

I'm not aware of any EA HQ located in Australia unfortunately, i'm gonna start next week my game dev class ( analyst programmer for game design/web design ) so i guess we're in the same boat ^^ I work here to have a nice resume after i finish the class in 2 years. Working as a QA can give you a nice boost so if you ever get across such job, take it and thank me later.

Do your coworkers annoy you or something? Seems like it could be a cool job. Just curious. :steammocking:

an article from 5 years ago? pretty hilarious. everyone has a rocky start when making something like a new drm, it's been out and weathered the test of time, uplay is ubisoft's game launcher and it's fairly secure.

Noticed eventualy that its an old article, still... I still wish I could play my games without being forced to use Uplay.

Hello I'm the CEO of Tesla and Steam, I can safely tell you that Uplay is absolute trash and the one who came up with it should step on a lego.
