No, definitely not overrated.

Judging it by today's standards is quite unfair, I find myself lucky that I played the game when it was a masterpiece back in the day.

It was basically the Witcher 3 of the generation.

It's a good game, far from the best Zelda imo

It's overrated in the same sense stuff like FFVII, Chrono Trigger, SOTN or Super Metroid are overrated. They have a lot of historical and inspirational value but there's a furious nostalgic hive mind putting them in a tier above "normal" games.

It's sorta stronger with OoT because, let's be honest, N64 players didn't have that much to play to begin with, in comparison with PS1 playerbase.

I don't like using the term "overrated" for anything, as it's basically just saying that something is liked more than I wish it to be. You either like something or you don't, and there's little point in getting hung up on how well others like it. Everyone likes things to different degrees.

I personally think that Ocarina of Time is a very good game and an extremely influential one. That being said, I believe that all Zelda games have their own strengths and weaknesses over the others, so you can't really give an unbiased opinion as to which one is "best". Ocarina of Time is hardly what I'd consider my ideal game, but I think it's pretty good and I revisit it from time to time.

I would say it is not overated. It was the first 3D Legend of Zelda and boy did they do very good with it gameplay wise, music wise, and story wise.

Also Nintendo 64.

oot isn't even the most influential game of 1998 i would argue that MGS and FF7 SCBW are far more influential metal gear revitalised an entire genre.

Personally, I always liked majora's mask more, while ocarina of time had more balanced gameplay, Majora's Mask had a far more interesting story.

Because it was a game that was ahead of it's time, at least on consoles. And it had a lot advertising in games magazines.

no, It doesn't need mods or anything to be a top tier game.

It was a feat in its day, it almost ended up like mario 64 where you warp to levels because of the difficulty having a large open area. So no hyrule field, no epona were close to happening.

It was one of the first 3d games with good fishing. One of the first to use the rumble pack intellgently (Hidden hole finder).

Agree, it's still one of the highest rated games of all time even still today.

A lot of people will say it's the best game ever purely on nostalga alone. It's a great game but it's not aging well.
