What a handheld console is, to me:

"I don't have this but I guess it'd be nifty but then I might have to pump it full of AA batteries and even if it's a newer model that uses a Li-ion battery I'd still have fork over like $100 for it before games"
What handheld even use AAs anymore? You're paying more for better quality games outside of your home.
And I found an original ds at like £16 at CEX, for dq9 and a charger your only paying like £30, cheaper than a AAA game.

I think GBAs do? Not sure. I think everything newer than that uses a built-in rechargeable of some sort, though I can't be sure it's specifically Li-ion as opposed to, say, NiCad or NiMH or whatever since I'm less familiar with them.

But GBAs arnt really used anymore and wouldnt be used in this situation, its like saying areoplanes dont use fueland use the wright brothers plane as an example.

Ehh, more like a Boeing Model 40.

To be fair, OP didn't give any context.

So I was just giving my own perspective.

Also this reminds me, I should get my Game Boy fixed.

what a lazy thread starter.
If you possess the option, who would not pick the superior platform for gaming. A phone, however, is omnipresent, and generally far more at hand than a handheld. The phone is more adaptive, and has more uses and potential entertainment value.

Get a blue tooth controller and a phone clip. It works perfect
I prefer my home desktop any day over a mobile emulator.

So do I.

But it's nice to have a mobile version for road trips and what not

I love Nintendo and have bought all of their hand hold consoles since the OG DS. (Yh the silver the one with the big ass base. However I only really use it at home and on planes / other long journeys. Also b4 the Switch I would buy the console and the games, but I'd use emulators on my PC and hook it up to the TV so I can play some big screen Pokemon.

Tldr : Phones are better if you want something to waste time.

HH Consoles are better if you want something to play good games on while on long journeys.

A phone screen is no smaller then your typical hand held consoles screen

You said you were emulating console games. The screen is too small for that
